Prune and clear jungle garden in Autumn or wait till spring?

My garden is currently pretty much a no go area due to my regretful neglect of it this year. Hedges that are now trees, plants that are now trees, rampant brambles and weeds !!

Should I get it cleared and sorted this Autumn or wait it out till next year ?

If you know, or can find out, what the shrubs and plants are, that may help you decide.

Some shrubs need to be pruned at specific times of the year (though if you don't mind missing a year's flowers that may not matter).

But I would do the weeding now, before they spread even more!

I would definitely get rid of the brambles as soon as you can, the longer you leave them the more difficult it will be. Other than that I?d do it slowly over the autumn and winter, weather permitting, so you can make a new start in the spring.

I would start now but follow this or something similar: https://www.gardenersworld.com/what-to-do-now-september/ ...or look for further tips depending on the size and aspect of your garden, and divide the work up into smaller portions so that you don't do anything too hasty. There might be some Autumn and Winter growth to be enjoyed, whilst those areas which are cleared now might be right for planting this side of the colder months depending on what kind of result you're after.

    • That is clearly not true. I see car drivers breaking the law on an hourly basis - jumping red lights, speeding, not obeying the general rules. Plus they are operating considerably more dangerous machinery and should have a greater responsibility of care to other road uses. You can see who causes the most harm by the stats.

    • "If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck then it must be a duck" comes to mind Unfortunately, a large number of cyclists do exhibit selfish amd anti social behaviour which, regardless of how many good cyclists there are, is seen as the norm.  It's a bit like one car driver jumping a red light and all car drivers getting tarred by the same brush. Perception is the issue and if cyclists all obeyed the rules, everyone would be less anti them but unfortunately that isn't the case 🤔
