social distancing (discussion)

I am finding it very concerning that shops in ED and the Village are not enforcing social distancing in the queues outside. I dont want to call out any individual retailers but there seems to be a general pattern. My view is that they should be encouraged to mark two metres gaps on the pavement and allow one in one out ( I mean the small shops for that not the supermarkets.) Ive spoken to one retailer already about this and think more community pressure would be valuable . Not sure individual shoppers will socially distance unless directed

Having just done a shop on Lordship Lane, I'm astonished at how casual many people seem to be about social distancing. In one deli there were about 25 people standing inside in a queue. I left immediately. Even in M&S, people were quite close to each other in the checkout area. In one bakery, an assistant was putting loaves into bags with bare hands.

In contrast, Hop, Burns & Black were strictly enforcing a limit on people in the shop.

Come on people (shops AND customers) it's time to take this extremely seriously, and if you need a glimpse of where we might be going, look at Italy.

I went into M & S and wanted to use my own shopping bag to put goods in while walking around the store instead of the baskets to help prevent cross contamination and was told it wasn?t allowed. I had to use a basket! Then in the chemist (I had to collect a prescription) I was offered a pen by the counter staff, I said it?s OK I?ll use my own (again to stop cross contamination) and was told ?it?s Ok I?m wearing gloves?!no thought that I wasn?t and probably neither had the dozen or so users before me.

Finally I get home, wash my hands thoroughly, sit down for a cup of tea and hear the letterbox open. I go to the hallway to see a card left advertising double glazing!!! So if I haven?t caught it off the basket or the pen there?s a chance it?s been helpfully posted through my own front door.

Son in law just phoned to check on us. He stated that their local supermarket was limiting the number of customers in the store i.e. let three in and when they exit another three were allowed in. He also reports that Argos had run out of freezers as everyone is going into panic buying mode.

Rarely am I so enraged by something that I feel the need to post dramatic of stirring posts. So instead ill just post the day in the life of a Icu doctor in London right now. Whoever deemed it ok to open the market today, to ignore warnings read this diary carefully and let that hang heavy on your conscious. This is not a game, this is not something we can take lightly.

Can't believe someone was having a children's birthday party in Peckham Rye park today and the skate park was jammed packed with teenagers sitting together. The schools closed on Friday for a reason!

I no longer work clinically, but I have friends that do, aged 40 - 60, working in respiratory and cardiology. I?m lucky and can work from home, but they are going in and working long hours. They are scared as they know a high viral load will endanger them. To stop their units being overwhelmed everyone must try and stay home, with as little social contact as possible. People are not doing this, so there will be avoidable deaths. This includes the ?normal? pathology. For example, if critical care beds are full and someone in there teens or twenties catches meningitis or has a head injury they may be denied a bed and a ventilator because beds are full of Covid-19 victims, so the two young patient?s risk of death is higher. The government was too slow and even now London needs to lockdown to stop the Italian pattern. So please tell friends and family to avoid social contact to save lives.

There's certain dynamics in society who think they will be immune, or at least think this will only affect the elderly. There are many young people who are suffering I'll health, or have immunity problems. Please consider your fellow humans. Stop being selfish.

Just heard on LBC a person ringing in stated they came past CrystalPalace Park and seems more people out than usual came through Dulwich Village and people many people walking around and sitting on packed benches having coffee.

What is wrong with them or does speaking in a posh voice give them immunity, perhaps they should swop it for a brain and common sense.

I doubt if it's just posh people who are stupid, to be fair.

But perhaps those who think other people are posh need to believe that, so they've a crutch for their prejudice.

I mean, I'm posh and stupid, but I'm sure there's chavs that are stupid too.

    • Yet another increase, its absolutely disgusting. I was charged £7.95 to send documents recorded delivery last week. I asked for the Signed for option that only costs £2.50 but the Post Office refused & said they would only send them recorded delivery.
    • Thanks Admin for clarifying - I’ve now found the post they used to scrape my telephone number from. So it wasn’t a data breach from EDF, rather my foolishness posting it online 15 years ago…    Still leaving this thread here if that’s ok so that people are aware of this scam and don’t fall foul of it (also to think twice before posting phone numbers here as it can be used by any one as I’ve found out!)
    • There is deliberately nowhere to enter your phone number, name, address etc anywhere when registering an account on this forum. There never has been. There is no way to attach this sort of personal information to your account.  If someone says that EDF has given your phone number, then this is a lie. No personal information is sold to any third party and it is not collected in the first place.
