Wanted - hearing aids to borrow for a couple of weeks or advice

My 96 year old Dad has dementia and his NHS hearing aids are not working properly at the moment so they need to be sent off for repair. The problem is that it takes about 2 weeks for them to be repaired, in which time he gets extremely distressed and confused, so it's a bit of a vicious circle. We always explain to the audiology dept about the situation and ask for them to be repaired urgently but it's never less than 2 weeks. (He doesn't live in London)

I've no idea whether someone else's hearing aids would work for him but if anyone does have any spare ones and knows more about it than me, could you get in touch?

It appears that 'off the peg' ones cost about ?500 for a pair, which none of us can afford.

If anyone has any other helpful suggestions, do let me know.

Unfortunately it's unlikely that another persons hearing aids will work for your dad. They are usually made specifically for the person who needs them, they make a mould of your ear so the chances of any others fitting is highly unlikely. Also the sound quality, pitch etc will have been geared specifically for your father.

Sorry I know this isn't a very helpful reply.

Is it not possible for audiology to programme a spare pair to use while his regular ones are being repaired? My daughter wears hearing aids, and this is what happens whenever she is having one repaired. It's Children's Audiology at St Thomas' but surely the same must be possible for your dad? How distressing for him, I hope you work something out.

    • Do also remember that, whilst this is the original there is an unrelated FB presence with a (very) similar name, which might also be prayed in aid.
    • Yet another increase, its absolutely disgusting. I was charged £7.95 to send documents recorded delivery last week. I asked for the Signed for option that only costs £2.50 but the Post Office refused & said they would only send them recorded delivery.
    • Thanks Admin for clarifying - I’ve now found the post they used to scrape my telephone number from. So it wasn’t a data breach from EDF, rather my foolishness posting it online 15 years ago…    Still leaving this thread here if that’s ok so that people are aware of this scam and don’t fall foul of it (also to think twice before posting phone numbers here as it can be used by any one as I’ve found out!)
    • There is deliberately nowhere to enter your phone number, name, address etc anywhere when registering an account on this forum. There never has been. There is no way to attach this sort of personal information to your account.  If someone says that EDF has given your phone number, then this is a lie. No personal information is sold to any third party and it is not collected in the first place.
