Digital pianos?

Any advice on which digital piano to get? I grew up with a 'normal' piano and would love my children to learn but we don't really have enough downstairs space for a traditional piano. So was going to get a digital one. Any recommendations would be appreciated (and sources of second hand ones?)

Thanks

The added benefit of digital is being able to turn it down or use headphones. As a child I hated everyone hearing me practice. Now learning as an adult with a digital piano (Yamaha Arius) and digital headphones and it means I can happily play in the evenings once the kids are in bed. My eldest daughter likes it too as she gets a little more independent and self-conscious. A good investment - good luck with the choice!

@nunheadmum - thank you! I'm excited but a bit nervous about buying a digital piano, I'm a bit of a purist!! But have heard lots of good stuff about them. Hoping I can actually find the time to practice every day myself!

Hi, I've just purchased ( arriving tomorrow) the yamaha DGX-660 for the same reasons as you re space. It's ?600 and is a great hammer action electric piano as well as having loads of bells and whistles to p7lay with..... 5 track recorder, sound effect, rhythms, instrument voices. Looking forward to my son learning piano basics but having a lot of creative fun too..... And I'm going to try and brush up my skills too. I ordered through epianos.co.uk - their website has a lot of review and comparison videos. Plus visited Musicland in Downham to physically try out a few. Good luck!

I very recently bought a Yamaha P-45, which is their entry level 88-key digital piano. Lovely graded hammer action and all the benefits digital pianos offer as mentioned by other posters. As I wasn't sure how much the children would take to it, I didn't want to spend a fortune but I've been delighted with it.

Welcome to pop round and have a play on it to see what you think!

Echo praise for the Roland Piano. Grandchild has been taking lessons and has done really well for several years with this digital piano.

    • That is horrific.  I can't even believe that this a thing.  Really what planet do these so called humans live on...    It actually says that the little fluff balls will be gassed.    It should be illegal.  At least one person took the time to read the letter.   I am shocked.
    • Looking for some advice here! Our little one is sleeping, finally, but still gets upset when going to bed or waking up. Has anyone tried one of the star/galaxy projectors you can get for them at night, and does it distract and sooth them enough to send them to sleep? Recommendations are very welcome here, as there are many different options online, from the suspiciously cheap to eye wateringly expensive. Is it a case of you get what you pay for? Advice gratefully received! LL
