Tutor for JAGS 11+ entrance

Recommended Posts

Can anyone recommend a tutor or tutoring class for the JAGS entrance exam? My daughter is at a state primary. Any information anyone can give would be very gratefully received, this is all new to me! Should I get my daughter assessed before we start - obviously I think she's a bright girl (!) but if we're really barking up the wrong tree I'd rather know sooner than later.

Thanks all.

Your daughter should be working beyond expected standard - also called at Greater Depth. Give her a chance to look at the sample materials over the summer (look at the examples from Alleys too). Use these to see which areas she needs to work on.

If you would like someone to do this with you, I am happy to help (I am a primary school teacher).

I am a local and independent 11+ tutor with many years' experience and excellent track record.

I have successfully prepared many students for the JAGS exam (references available), so I know the required level very well and will be able to tell you in all honesty if you are indeed barking at the wrong tree!

More specifically, I provide:

- One-to-one focus to address your child's unique ways to learn so he/she can attain the expected level of attainment.

- Thorough knowledge of the requirements for each specific selective test.

- Cements the child's knowledge acquired at school, as well as covers subjects and exam techniques not taught in school by the end of Year 5, thus filling-in the possible gaps in his/her knowledge.

- Consultation about grammar and independent schools in the area available.

Please find some references:

"Caroline is a kind, warm and inspiring tutor. My 10 year old daughter always looked forward to her sessions with Caroline and she became very well prepared for her 11+ exams."

"We were very happy indeed with Caroline - Imogen and Bailey both got offers from all schools applied for, and Bailey has two academic scholarships and a third scholarship interview, so they have done wonderfully - thank you!"

"When tutoring my son Theo, Caroline was really committed and was brilliant for keeping him motivated. They had a really nice relationship. She has an amazing ability to make the lessons fun and was always coming up with inventive ways of teaching. I?ve just asked my son if he wanted to add anything and he says ?She knew me really well.?"

"I have known Caroline around four years and she has taught two of my four children. In terms of teaching content, I have found her to be a very well-prepared and diligent teacher, with creative ideas about how to engage the children, taking into account differing needs. She is very personable and popular with the children - they have always very much looked forward to seeing her. On the practical side, she is organised, punctual and communicative."

I can be contacted: Dr Caroline Perret - [email protected] - Tel. 0208 291 93 43 / 0749 7767 661. Of course I am

DBS checked.

Dear Dr Perret,

I was really impressed with your post. Is your specific knowledge of JAGS because you have taught there? How much do you charge per hour for 11+ preparation and how does this compare for general tuition per hour of a 13 year old?

Thank you

I haven't taught in JAGS, but I have successfully prepared many children for this specific school before. Such preparation included English, Maths, Verbal and non-Verbal Reasoning, as well as creative writing and interview coaching.

I charge ?55/hour, but I do the marking of comprehensions and creative writing in my own time, and then go through the sticky points together with the student.

I hope this answers your questions.

With kind regards,

Caroline

    • I just joined when I moved to Dulwich 3 years ago.  I have never seen a GP and I wouldn't even know their names.  It is a shame.  I have had to go to AnE for a chest infection as I was sick for over 3 weeks. I don't know what to make of it.  Is this a conspiracy to force people to go private.  If they can afford it.  Or are they just trying to kill us off through lack of medical support.  I do not think that I am qualified to diagnose my own medical condition.  This system is surely not a safe one.   And people will eventually die due to lack of basic health care.  It is a very bad situation.   From cradle to grave.  It seems more grave than cradle to me.  Are all so called GP practises as bad?
    • Years ago there was something similar locally,  but out of a bright blue sky,  so completely unexpected. A bolt from the blue. I heard this massive bang, the loudest thing I'd ever heard (until today!) I went out to investigate and found lightning had struck a house in Whateley Road (I think it was Whateley Road.  Other people may remember, as quite a  few other people were also gathered around). The lightning had gone down the chimney. The fire service were there for some time. It was quite exciting, though I don't suppose the people in the house it struck thought so! https://www.essearth.com/what-is-a-lightning-bolt-from-the-blue/
