Schools in ED

Hi

Please can you recommend a school in ED/Dulwich whihc is not ridiculously expensive, has good academics and good sports. I have been told I need to get my baby's name down (boy) and woudl like to do so soon. The fact that hes only 6 months old is i am told a minor issue!

oh my god, please tell me you are joking...my son is six months old today...am I really supposed to be worrying about which school he will go to? I was still focused on getting him to sleep through the night...the pressures of modern living..bah!

For state schools, they start nursery at 3 and school at 4, apply about a year before.

You don't need to be worrying about it at 6 months if you're planning on sending him to a state school. Things may be different if you choose to go private though, however I'm unsure how that process works.

You don't have to pay for good schools in East Dulwich. The state provides us with excellent schools, good academically and with a broad extracurricular choice. Why stress out over waiting lists and waste 50k?

Different kind of waiting list taper, not one that you need to start stressing about at 6months. And it does, you just need to live in the right place to get into one of our lovely ED schools. The chaos of this years admissions is the subject of its own thread.

Alleyns, JAPs etc don't have waiting lists: entry is ability based. Other prep schools - best to get your name down a year or so before they're due to go.

Although if you'd like your child to go to a nursery at 2/2.5, eg Buds, Puddleduck, then it IS worth putting your name down early.

Sillywoman - But if you are thinking of paying for your education, then from what I gather those schools are relatively reasonable. I think St Dunstans is cheapest around here, but they're all within a few grand of ten grand.
