Any recommendations for timber double glazed sash windows?

Hi there,

I'm looking to replace some of my single pane Victorian sash windows as they are beyond repair and unsafe now I have a new baby.

Has anyone got good recommendations for companies that supply really attractive Victorian-style timber windows and fit them really well? *I know it may sound obvious about fitting, but you'd be surprised at how some workpeople can put them in badly and not properly fill the gaps - or they are incorrectly measured meaning the pane can crack.

Any help and pics would really be beneficial. If anyone wants to PM that would be super.

Thanks.

We used Sundial (Steve - 07966 493641) to refurbish and retrofit with slimline double glazing for most of our windows, and replace a couple with new ones. He and his team were brilliant and the windows look amazing. Highly highly recommend. Happy to send pics if you PM me your number, or for you to pop over and see them in person (we?re in Peckham Rye).

Thanks overcaffeinated for the recommendation - looks like they just do refurbs though and I need completely new windows. Difficult to tell though as their site is under construction. http://www.sundialps.co.uk/

Have been in touch with Paul at SJB Sash Windows Specialist Ltd and visited their work and think I'll go with them tbh as they also have the best price from four others I've tried and the people I visited only had good things to say about them. https://sjbsashwindows.co.uk

I was extremely impressed by this firm, and will probably be going with them as well.

Very impressive ! What's wrong using a local joinery ? are not local joiners really crafty as well?? Do you think you will better off using them? Just cause the locals possibly don't have that fancy websites? will you be aloud to see how they make your windows? i can see people are so tick here, they like an "expansive" brochure and a fancy website. When doing any joinery works what you need is someone with crafts, the rest its all an illusion! good luck!

Hi costeve. I'm not sure why your post appears so aggressive. I wasn't criticising Sundial's website - I just simply stated that I couldn't tell exactly what services they offered as it was still under construction. So as a result can't view a gallery of work or testimonials or anything else that may help when making an informed decision. Regarding the company I have chosen to use, they are impressive because of the examples I have visited in person and the professionalism of their agents - btw they are based in Carshalton. Also the quotes I got from local joiners were more than double (and in one case triple) SJB's quotes.

I would add that you probably meant "because" or "cos" rather than "cause", "allowed" rather than "aloud" and "expensive" rather than "expansive".

Also not sure if where you stated 'people like me are so "tick", you actually meant that people like me are so "thick"? ;)

Regarding Sundial - as I couldn't tell what services they offered because their site is under construction, an agent contacted me to confirm that they do not in fact replace new windows (see below). I only contacted them in the interests of fairness regarding Costeve's earlier comments. After six quotes and two refusals I have found the quote provided by Paul at SJB Sash Windows to be the most competitive, also he has impressed me the most with his professionalism and knowledge (he is always contactable and courteous plus was a craftsman and fitter prior to doing house visits).

"Thanks for your enquiry and interest in our company. Unfortunately, this is not the type of work we do. We refurbish and restore mainly Victorian windows, rather than replace. Thanks again - Steve Carter. ".

Thanks all.

Sounds similar there are people out there charging nearly double that. What impressed me about Raphael was the time taken to fit the windows and make good afterwards so it?s perfect. And I suppose the way they cared for the house covering the stairs and everywhere and hoovering just lovely

    • Plenty for sale online from various ticket vendors but you'll need to part with £250 and upwards by the looks of it. Out of interest i kept an eye on the prices for the England and Italy Euro final. At one point they were on offer for a couple of grand each. On the day sellers were obviously getting itchy feet and prices dropped somewhat but never went any lower than £400. That was a few hours before kick off. There was plenty still available half an hour before kick off.   Having been to Wembley a couple of times for play off finals i found it to be not a great place to watch football. Sat three rows back from the pitch side advertising hoardings for one game and way way up in the gods for the other. We felt to far away from the pitch on both occasions. Up in the goods was just stupid because we felt cut off as well.  I don't think it was rebuilt with acoustics in mind either. Even with most of our 25k fans singing it never sounded loud because it's pretty much uncovered and too open.   Happy hunting!
    • It doesn't work as a commercial venture.  Bit churlish to say I told you so.  I told you so.  I'll send less greetings cards.  What pees me off is international postage where you can no longer send light letters at 10 grammes, normal ones up to 20g, now all at the much more expensive 100 g  Didn't we vote to take back control and price everything according to irrational units like ounces? That's some obscure humour btw
    • Available from Monday April 8th 2024, 2on2Walkies take pride in doggie care and only walk 2 furry friends at a time. I make sure that they get plenty of doggie interaction and socialisation in the park as well as making friends. Back home happy and tired I always check that the water bowl has fresh water and always make sure the doggie is left comfortable before I leave. I'm fully insured and have a couple of slots available for local walks to either Peckham Rye Park or Dulwich Park.  Thank you!
    • Why would they only send them recorded delivery? I used the signed for option yesterday.
