As Nature Intended opening in September

A branch of As Nature Intended is opening soon in Lordship Lane where Surma (R.I.P.) used to be.

Until now I knew nothing about this company, but apparently it was founded by the person who founded Iceland! (Frozen food shop not country :) )

Good for him, Iceland always had a strong organic ethos (if that's the right term), if memory serves.

Thanks for the info Sue.

That's a shame then as the person who founded Iceland actually closed down the store on Lordship Lane a couple of years ago. A store that served a lot of people but was sold to M&S.

Now they think times are changing and Lordship Lane needs asnatureintended. Why not just go across the road to the new Superdrug?

Superdrug?s doesn?t sell free from food or any food for people with dietary needs. Plus I don?t find the supplements at Superdrug?s of good quality.

The issue is that SMBS,Health Matters and Organic Village now have another contender. More so Health Matters as it?s literally across the road from them.

Organic? Really? Aside from their free range eggs, which I can?t recall if it was organic too, I?ve not spied anything bearing the organic soil association logo on any of their products.

What Iceland sold/sells bears no resemblance to what this new shop will sell, surely?

I was sorry to see Iceland go, but with the changing demographic in East Dulwich, I can't see they had a lot of choice. I can't imagine the Lordship Lane store would have been profitable.

And surely what Superdrug sells doesn't overlap much with As Nature Intended? I've been in Superdrug twice and found it profoundly depressing :(

I think As Nature Intended is a great shop as well, though I shall still be supporting Health Matters by buying things there where they have the same products.

Also, Gather in Bellenden Road has a much larger selection of refillable type things than As Nature Intended, if that is what you are after!

Thanks Sue! I?ll check out the place on Bellenden Rd. Will definitely still support Health matters, they are very knowledgeable x

I find the people in Gather are much nicer! Maybe it was an off day but lets just say As Nature Intended were not very welcoming or approachable.

The refill prices in this shop seemed quite a lot higher than Gather (and 2 Girls Cafe which also has a decent selection of refill products, some different ones from Gather). And Gather go the whole way - all their products are as plastic free/low waste as possible, unlike most of the other non refill ones at ANI. So, not very impressed overall with ANI, unfortunately, shame as it's very handily located.

The people in Gather have put a huge amount of love, care and effort - not to mention money! - into starting up and running the shop, putting together a website etc.. There has been huge attention to detail, and a positive effort to seek constructive feedback from customers.

Whereas I presume the staff in As Nature Intended are paid employees. It's a different kettle of fish altogether.

Not that that excuses being unwelcoming, though I have to say I've been in there twice now (the second time looking for something they didn't sell) and they were perfectly pleasant both times.

Haven?t been into as nature intended as I find Health Matters caters for all my needs and I think it?s important to support local businesses that have been on Lordship Lane for years. I also find Dawn very knowledgable and very happy to give advice on all kinds of health matters.

I haven't noticed the price increases at Organic Village and I choose not to shop at ANI as they are a chain.

any price discrepancy may be due to the bulk purchasing power of a chain vs a smaller supplier buying smaller orders when needed which may be costing more at wholesale due to price increases at the suppliers end.

    • I think insurance scams do happen but I thought there had been a crackdown on them recently. In the past insurance companies seemed to just pay out and everyone's premium goes up to cover it. My partner was a victim a few years ago, she was parking and touched a bumper of the next car. There was no mark and the other driver just waved my partner away. A month later we received a letter claiming there were four people in the other car and two of them were so badly injured they could not work. Our insurer was a rare one that actually fought the case and pretty much on the steps of the court the scammers "dropped hands" and case was closed. i thought at the time that was a good result but I later saw that my insurer had run up a £2000 legal bill and didn't get to ask for costs as there was no court case – we didn't have to pay it but again, it's this sort of thing that pushes all premiums up. And no action was taken against the other party despite them clearly being scammers who were revealed to have done this before and had effectively admitted their own statements were a pack of lies. Sorry to hijack your thread, just getting this off my chest as your post brought it all flooding back!

Being 2 form entry, It’s one of the smaller schools in the area and it’s also very diverse with an amazing spirit. Brilliant Art and Music departments, staff and a new library.
