Does anyone have any experience/recommendations/advice about home security systems?

I'm moving soon and would like to get something in place, as we already had a minor break in before even moving in. (They went in through a downstairs window at the back and took the only thing of value in the house, a bottle of wine we had brought for our new neighbours. A bit frustrating as I thought the garden of a mid-terrace would be quite secure, but such is life.)

I'm happy to go pretty nuclear with it, cameras, alarms etc, but I don't want to look like a drug lord, I'd like to keep it subtle. I also have a cat, so it would need to tolerate cat related movement.

I know there's lots of techy systems out there, I would love any tips, feedback or advice from others experiences.

Hi I recently had an alarm and cctv installed at my house after a burglary here in East Dulwich. I was recommended someone local from a friend of mine who also had an alarm fitted by him. His name is Tom and he was very good.
