Cordless Vacuum Cleaner Repairs - anyone local?

I have two cordless vacuum cleaners which have both developed a similar fault, in that both perform well for 4 or 5 seconds and then switch themselves off. One's a handheld Dyson - about 7 or 8 years old. The other's a Morphy Richards "Lithium" about 2-3 years old. Any vacuum cleaner repair specialists locally who'd be able to have a look at both and see if they can rectify?

Hi AC1964, my name is Stuart and I'm a handyman in the local area. I have repaired Dyson handheld vacuum cleaners before, but I would not say that I am a specialist. Have you tried replacing the battery in the Dyson? Lithium batteries will degrade over time, and if the Dyson is 7 - 8 years old this could be the problem. What model is it?

Thanks,

Stuart

The model number of the Dyson is DC35. I'm reluctant to buy a new battery and replace as it just doesn't seem like a battery problem. The motor cuts out after 5 seconds or so and then 2 or 3 seconds later it is ready to run again (for another 5 seconds). Seems to me more like a faulty overheating sensor or similar... Almost exactly the same pattern with the Morphy Richards.

    • You can request for them to come and collect your full bins again https://forms.southwark.gov.uk/ShowForm.asp?fm_fid=1879 They usually come on whatever day your rubbish/recycling collection day is. If you aren't going to be in, leave them somewhere that they can find it. If you don't need replacements, just leave a note on the full ones that a replacement isn't needed.  They usually come quite early, so it's better to leave them outside if you can.
