messageCovid 19 tracker app for KCL. Please download and check-in
Posted by ED_moots April 23, 03:39PM

[covid.joinzoe.com]

This app is for the general public to check in (EVEN IF THEY ARE WELL) and allows Kings College to map outbreaks of the virus. The more people that use it the better their data and modelling will be.

The app does nothing sinister or commercial, It has been created as a very valuable tool in tracking the virus. The data is very useful for mapping the virus spread and modelling how we might safely exit the current lock down.

Please download and start using it today, it takes about 1 minute to check in. They have over 2m users already in UK but need more.

ADMIN: please pin this post.

I wasn't able to use this app due to glitches, and when I contacted them to say so I just got a standard email response.

I still keep getting notifications to fill it in "today" though .....

Hopefully other people will have better luck!

That's disappointing Sue. I'm on an android phone and it's been working OK. Please DM me if you'd like me to try and help.

I have no vested interest or connection to the KCL team but its something we can all do (when it works), takes no effort and is really helping Dr's understand the virus.

how do you use it, what does it entail?

You register with your age gender and an email if I remember rightly. Then you just answer 2 questions each day. Have you been tested? Whether you have symptoms? That's it. It shares that anonymous data and your location with KCL. More info here [covid.joinzoe.com].

You can also report on behalf of other people eg. Vulnerable people who might not have or use a smartphone

Thanks, I'm also on an android phone. I will try again and DM you if I'm still having problems.

I’ve been using the app for a couple weeks now (iPhone) and joined a zoom meeting last week to hear some preliminary findings / update from the scientists who run it. It was interesting and I felt happy to be doing something helpful. I really encourage people to download load it from App Store or wherever you get your apps and to log in every day (it takes a minute or less for me). I know they are keen to have more people reporting and have updated the app so that you can add multiple profiles if you wish to report for your whole household.

If you search for it ‘COVID Symptom Tracker’ it’s the top one and the icon is blue with a big C-19 logo.

Does it allow you to look backwards? Symptoms have been and gone.

I don't believe it does. It asks if you have been tested then whether you feel normal. I don't know what happens if you say "yes" I've been tested or "I'm not feeling right"

I only started using it after we had already had the virus but that doesn't matter. The idea is it takes s snapshot of any given day. Really important that people use it whether they've had the virus or not.

When you first sign in to the app it takes you through a few background questions and these include whether you think you have previously had the virus and if so what symptoms you had. It also asks you if you were tested at the time or not.

This is probably a stupid question but can I log on if I don't have a smart phone ? I use a laptop with Windows 10 and a Chromebook .

Is it available on the Google Play store? I have searched for it but it doesn't come up.

Edit: I don't think I can delete my post, but when I searched for the App creator instead it came up and I have installed it.

Yes it's in Play Store. If you click the link in the OP it takes you to the website explaining the app and a link to the app in play store and appstore. I had a quick look in the FAQs and it seems there is no non-smartphone version but they're working on it. I believe play store apps work on SOME chromebooks.

UK govt seems it will move towards track and trace to help ease lockdown and I hope they extend this app to do that although it was implied today they've come up with a new app.

Personally, I'll use both as I'm convinced but the work KCL are doing with this app.

I’ve been offered a test thru this app & booked one at Greenwich, but confirmation
does not give full address of site. This does not seem to be available online either. Can anyone help? Thanks

There is a drive through testing site at one of the car parks at the O2. Sorry - no idea if that's the one being referred to but it was on a news a few weeks ago when it opened.

Fwomble, I'd trust the system would come with means of sending in user feedback on apparent glitches like this, whatever the cause. Does it?

Sadly it does not

messageRe: Covid 19 tracker app for KCL. Please download and check-in

Could be reported by rating app and adding comment. Then hope developers are reading feedback.

There is an FAQ that indicates feedback is through the relevant App Store.

“This is a not for profit app that was produced in a very short development time, therefore we admit there may be a bug or two. We welcome any and all feedback about our app in the relevant app store, or at covidtrackingquestions@joinzoe.com. Please bear with us as we resolve these issues.”

I still can't use it. I tried again today.

I answer one or two questions and then it won't move on. I will email them at the address above.

It has finally worked for me, so hopefully they have now ironed out all the glitches!

They seem to have made a number of improvements to the app, and they are suggesting that if people still have problems they reinstall the app.

Some findings from the C19 app.

Cases peaked around April 1st. Cases rose thereafter as infected people stayed home and infected other family members.
Unsurprisingly, large gatherings lead to spikes in cases.
Loss of smell is a common symptom.

That's very interesting.

I'd be very interested to see the groupings.

Groupings by age sue? Not sure, couldn't find it on the KCL-zoe site but there's some more data here:

[covid.joinzoe.com]

Seems the infection rate is higher in the North of England than London at the moment.

No, it seemed that the provisional findings of the King's study may show six question mark distinct groupings in terms of type of symptom etc..

I'm interested because it seems that the publicised symptoms (fever, dry cough) may well be absent in many confirmed cases.
