Did anyone else not get a polling card?

OH I didn't get a polling card either. And I know the reason. Our clever Southwark Council decided to 'hand deliver' all its polling cards. IE they gave them to some kid who delivered half then got bored and shoved the rest in the nearest wheely bin.


After ringing the council 3 times, she admitted that you didn't even need proof of address or who you are to vote. So really yesterday you could have just popped along with your next door neighbours name and voted for them.

We got a polling card for someone who has never lived in our house. I rang the council concerned about identity fraud. They said you can just ring up and say you live somewhere in order to get yourself put on the electoral roll but its quite tricky to get someone off.

Yes you are correct, in this country you do not need ID to vote, or even a polling card , you only have to give your name and address, (wait till we all have to have the new Govenment ID cards...)

I was amazed yesterday when I went to vote THERE WAS A QUEUE!!!

I have been able to vote for some years and I have never seen that before!!!

I got my card - but am amazed that you dont need photo ID. When I vote in Ireland, I need my card, and a photo ID. Even though I know most of the people at the polling station, they still have to check my passport etc..


This system here isnt secure at all.


I have seen someone trying to rig an election in the past, even caught him red handed on the day of a local election. Thats why its SO important to have ID introduced when voting!! Luckily I was able to report him to the director of elections immediately - I was only a kid myself at the time - its still strikes me as bad - that so called politicians can get away with such deviousness. This man is still active in politics, but I have passed my story on to enough of the right people. I don't think he knows it was me that did it though. He does wonder why I don't give him the time of day - definately not wasting it on him - only when I know I need to keep a beedy eye on him. :)


People like him, give a terrible name to the politicians who actually care. Its rubbish, because any other politician whom I know, are fab and actually passionate about what they do!! I always thought it would be something I would like to do, but its a tough job, its definately not a 9-5, and I dont think, no matter how much I would like to help people, that I would like to be having a quiet drink and have people approach me with their woes constantly. It also seems like a very draining career - mentally!! On the other hand, I would love to go and stand up to those awful politiicans who are milking the system, and just want their pictures in the papers!

I think a lot of people will be unaware that they were bumped off the register during the move to individual rather than household registration. I was, and only found out because I checked the register. Southwark Council couldn't explain it, even though I enlisted the help of a friend who's head of electoral policy in Whitehall. Wait for thousands of angry disenfranchised people tomorrow...


And before anyone brings up conspiracy theories, the move was sensible as we live in more 'atomised' households these days and it reduces the opportunity for mass fraud involving heads of families controlling their votes. However, expecting Southwark Council to implement the change seamlessly proved to be beyond them - and I suspect a number of other mediocre councils up and down the land.

If you did not Reregister you may not be on the NEW list.


I reregistered on line and received 3 separate letters by post :-


Your registration has been received


Your registration is being processed


You are already registered and do not need to do anything.


I later received my Polling Card.


Depends if you confirmed your details in 2014 either by post or on line.

Feels bizarre when the original thread is so old but I haven't got a polling card.


I found the letter from earlier this year which says if everything is correct I don't need to do anything but if additional voters use x code to update.


Nothing - I am assuming polling station stays the same as previous elections but is there somewhere I can check?

I haven't had a polling card either...am just going to turn up as, like Applespider, I had a letter saying that if everything was correct I didn't need to do anything. I'm going to the same polling station as last year (but that was different to previous years).

I read something on-line recently saying I had to re-register.


So I did.


Then I received a message saying that although I had re-registered, I didn't need to because I was already registered.

My daughter didn't see anything so she didn't re-register.


A couple of weeks ago we both received our polling cards.

I registered for postal vote and recieved a card through for local elections (which I returned) but nothing at all for the general election (which I am told should have been in the same pack). Anyone know if I can just turn up with ID to vote today??

      My son’s primary school hatched duck eggs, probably under this scheme around 12 years ago.  We were all very upset to hear that 2 of the (5 year old) boys had knocked the incubator over & all eggs smashed.   feeling a lot less sad about that now!

      What would I do about cyclists?  The failed Tory manfesto commitment to train all kids was an excellent proposal.  Public information campaigns aimed at all road users, rather than singling some out, to more considerately share the road, as TfL have done, is welcome too. As for crunching vehicles.  I'd extend this to illegal ebikes, illegal e-scoooters (I think some local authorities have done this with the latter) but before that I would (a) legislate that the delivery companies move away from zero hours contracts to permanent employees and take responsibility for their training, vehicles and behaviour on the road.   More expensive takeaways are a price worth paying for safer roads and proper terms and conditions (b) legislate to register all illegal e-bikes and scooters so that when they are found on the road the retailer takes a hit, and clamp down on any grey markets.  If you buy an e scooter say from Halfords this comes with a disclaimer that it can only be used on private land with the owner's permission.

      I know a lot of experts in the field and getting a franchise was a license to print money, that is why Virgin were so happy to spend lots of dosh challenging government ten years ago when they lost the West Coast franchise.  This will not be overnight, rather than when the franchise has come to the end. Government had previously taking over the operator of last resort when some TOCs screwed up.
