Any chance of a menu being on the website? I really dont see any point to the website without a menu on it?

The new Palmerston is the same. Difference being i actually want to give Saucy Chip a go, if when at work i could look at a menu to decide, that is.

£10 for a burger without fries??? Steep for a local establishment... will do well to get me to beer away from the tried and tested ‘Honest Burger’ & ‘Meat Liquor’.

Perhaps time for a fact check.

Meat Liqour's classic burger, the Dead Hippie is £9.50. Fries £3 extra.

Saucy's classic burger is also £9.50 but they do other dishes, salads etc. It's not a fast food joint.

Even The Plough (M&B chain), current holder of the most flavour-less burger on LL Award, is £13 for a burger inc fries.

Want the same Plough burger in a slightly better location? Then head to sister pub The Dog in DV where they will charge you £14.50.

On a budget? : McDonald's, Burger King, Finger Lickin Chicken....

In 2019, for this kind of independent restaurant and a prime location this is not out of kilter.

No need to charge £1 extra for bacon either really. Im paying almost a tenner for a burger with no chips included, come on, at least chuck on a slice of 30p bacon for nothing.

The regular (£4) saucy chips sound like they might be ok value, given the stuff on top of the chips, but i wonder how bi the portion size is.

Given they made their name for chips, why would you give them away.

£1 extra for bacon is par for the course, surely?

Why would they give you it for nothing?

The place looks great, btw, I love the flowers outside. I hope after all the setbacks that now the place will flourish.

Chips at saucy are £4/8 so small portion / big portion.

Because Honest Burger manage to (and always have, even when they were starting out)serve you a big tasty burger including bacon, cheese etc etc, with a portion of chips on your plate for £11.50.

I don't agree with this idea that a burger in one place shouldn't be more expensive than a burger in another. It's not an identical product, why should the price be identical? Perhaps the Saucy burger is superior. Perhaps the environment and service are more restaurant-quality, rather than Honest's borderline fast-food offering. The only way to know is to try it.

Despite my comments, i genuinely do wish them well. A couple of quid more for the same thing as Honest Burger i realise is not the end of the world. Will report back when tried.

I never realised a burger shop could cause so much angst. Too expensive, don't go. If it's priced right the place will do well.

Actually at Saucy a simple side of chips is £3 (not £4 as said above)

messageRe: Saucy open from today ...for good!
Posted by Penguin68 July 14, 12:53PM

As Saucy Chips is their actual name, having Chips as a separate option (plain, £3 - fancy £4+ as I understand it) seems a perfectly valid menu decision.

Good luck to them.

was talking about the chips with stuff on top of them. Not just plain chips.

Of course a chain restaurant can afford to charge less. It's not brain science. How about a bit of positivity about an independent retailer? Some of the people on this forum these days are plain awful.

I saw the owner pulling up in a right flash motor - i bet that wasn't cheap as chips... you saucy monkey x

its great that after many years living locally, Micky Flanagan has finally chosen to register on the EDF....drawn out of anonymity to comment about Saucy, an issue he just couldn't stay silent on for a moment longer. And he's even used his real name as his handle.
