Prices taking a big piss at Olly's indeed! Sea Master is one of our favs as well. Just can't go wrong with those guys.

Good cooked fish & crispy chips is my you can also say - comfort food.

Rosie's Fish Bar, East Dulwich Road.

Good take away, but you can also eat in at the back which means the batter is super crispy and the chips lovely and hot. Also a BYO, so bring a nice white!

Stayed there a few times- there is quite a queue on a Friday night...a bit nearer is Jack's in Bagshot...free coffee refills if you eat in

I like white fish. To garnish well-cooked vegetables or rice

The Herne Hill Fish Bar gets our vote. Fabulous fresh fish.

I can't comment on their fish, but the chippy on North Cross Road passes this northern boys high demands. I can't advise anyone to try curry sauce south of the Watford Gap, but I do dabble occasionally and can't complain

It all comes from a generic wholesale-sized packet of dried curry sauce mix... maybe northerners know how to stir it in with hot water a bit better than us southerners do?!

Another vote for Sea Master

Slightly further afield, the place on Vestry Road was recently reopened under new owners. I've been there a few times and have really enjoyed it. Everything cooked to order. Only minor complaint is they leave the skin on the fish. I've tried most of the places mentioned on this thread and this is as good as any of them.

If ya want to experience quality fish and chips I would recommend Kens in Dulwich Village or Fladda in Camberwell but to be honest I think for me Fladda just tops it.

Kens has my vote and he put curry sauce on the menu about a year ago. When I first came to london 30y ago, curry sauce in a chippy was extremely rare.

Sainsburys do jars of 'chinese style curry sauce' which is very good if you don't fancy paying £1.50 a portion.

Ken’s all the way for us - looked for ages to find a decent one and now we won’t go anywhere else!

Had fantastic fish, chips and peas at the Bread of Life café at Christ Church Barry Road, last week. £7.90 to eat in, but they also do takeaway. Café currently open 10 - 3 pm Monday - Fridays.

Agreed- why pay £12 a portion like the horrifically overpriced Olley's in Herne Hill, where you can have it from Iceland for about £3, and its just as good.

Emily's Plaice still my favourite - North Cross Road opposite the Actress, close to Crystal Palace Rd. The one near Goose Green playground also very good by all accounts.

Another vote for Emily's Plaice. Kens is good too, but much of a muchness really.

A bit further afield, Masters between Waterloo and Elephant & Castle is outstanding as many a black cab driver will vouch.

Another vote for Deep Sea on Vestry Road. Really lovely chips and mushy peas - I'm afraid I cannot comment on the fish as I'm a veggie.

---edited to change pies for peas - mushy peas = lovely, mushy pies - not so much---

Is Emily's really as good as Kens? even the chips? If so will have to give it a go!

Have had a couple of deliveries from Kens recently and they have upped their game recently. The two brothers on lordship lane is best value in dulwich imo though.

ah thanks - i'll stick with going over to Kens then - its a hit in our family.
