What is ironic is that last year somebody painted what I thought was a really sweet little poem on this wall (picture attached) and it was removed within a few days.

Pardon my French, but I think it looks shite. What a missed opportunity.

Have to say everyone I've spoken to likes the mural - adds a nice bright bit of colour and something a bit different. Nothing there to offend anyone, and more interesting than a blank brick wall. Hopefully it helps to keep some of the independent shops we're lucky enough to have plied with customers.
I guess nothing will be to everyone's taste and everyone is obviously welcome to their opinions, I get that.

We’ve become spoiled in East Dulwich and used to thought provoking and interesting street art. The purpose of this ‘mural’ is a colourful way of drawing attention to the businesses and market in North Cross Road rather than adding to the Dulwich Outdoor Gallery. So we have to look at it through different eyes rather than looking for something edgy though I would have preferred something a little more interesting than this bland use of paint.

They're looking to redevelop that building anyway, extending it and putting flats at the back, so the mural may not be there for long.

would have preferred to have commissioned a local school and given them the money

Yes, that would have been a great idea.

A wall near the Cowley Centre in Oxford has a brilliant series of murals done by local children, I believe from various local schools and community groups.

They’re not murals. Most of them are street art commissioned by Dulwich Picture Gallery as an outdoor exhibition. There used to be tours but sadly the lady who did them passed away.
The one by the station was commissioned by the East Dulwich Action Group as part of the Southwark funded High Street Challenge - who also ran the photo competition for the banners.
The one on the side of Superdrug is being organised by a new group.

Totally incorrect. Don’t post rumour Alice, deal in facts

No it has not been done by East Dulwich Action Group. All of this art is coated to protect it and stop graffiti

Money is made available for specific projects. If an outdoor gym is important to you, work with Southwark to make it happen instead of spending your time bitching on here. Do something. Put your opinions to
Good use rather than being a troll

Not actually true is it Fox? You can’t just paint a mural anywhere. Try using facts rather spouting rubbish

Of course it has permission. What a bloody stupid thing to say

It isn't clear what post you are responding to! Nor is it clear in your subsequent posts!

The "quote this message" option is a helpful one in this respect smiling smiley

Thought art was meant to be expressive and interpreted differently, so two people's perceptions will be very different.

Whilst many high streets are boarded up / in serious decline, East Dulwich is arguing over a whether or not they like a mural.

It's the East Dulwich Forum.

The mural is a fair subject for discussion, I would say smiling smiley

With regards to the Mural I think enough has been said.

Not worthy of continual discussion.

What do you consider "worthy of continual discussion", then, Dulwich Fox?

This is a forum. People discuss things on it. Like local issues. Like this one.

Well As far as I am concerned I personally have no more to say on the matter.
Or do you want to make it compulsory like Voting. ?

Eh?!

It didn't occur to you to just stop posting on the thread if you "personally" had no more to say then?
