It was considered a cheap place to get fruit and veg - as shops were much dearer.

Exactly - markets are driven by their economies - the current NX market is anything but cheap - it is high-end specialist - nothing wrong with that but it can't be compared with other more traditional markets - which were either 'good value' or catered to specialist (regional) dietary needs, or both.

Regarding the market, if anyone is interested in the pie van products, I think she's cooking and freezing them for warming-up at home of customers. PM if you want her details.

absolutely.
And why market stalls only there, why not a couple back at the old market place on Underhill Rd !?
I hear that was Fridays and Saturdays.

Required footfall to make an enlarged market viable for businesses is at odds with requirement for social distancing

I guess that's the point isn't it - rather than enlarging the market on Saturdays - enlarge it by having stalls over different days, spread out. There is a consensus that outdoors is better in terms of not spreading the virus than indoors, its not inconceivable to think that there could be some kind of screens for vendors, and with fewer stalls on each day it would make social distancing easier. It may also finally get the stall holders to turn round to face the closed off road, leaving the pavements free for pedestrians who need to pass!

You're suggesting that stall-holders will be willing to increase their outgoings and time commitment by the amount of days the market is open for the same financial return as when itís open for one day.

Edited to add Iíve just had a great idea. Perhaps coffee stalls can be set up in Melbourne Grove when (if) that road closes to through traffic. It can become the new go to destination and take advantage of all that lovely clear space.

No - not at all - you've misunderstood. I'm not suggesting they attend for eg 3 days to get the same income as they previously got in one, I'm suggesting that different stall holders could attend on different days - this way the stalls could be further apart and there would be more reason for people to go there more often as would be different offerings.

And Give free stalls to those businesses in the area that are prevented from opening their physical stores.

Anyone know if NX market will reopen from next weekend? Apparently outdor markets are now permitted to do so from June 1st. [metro.co.uk]

I hope so - I've missed the popcorn place and Comfort & Joy these past couple of months.

Foxy baby, I think you're missing the point of the popcorn stall.
It's sweet & salty popcorn and I think it'd be difficult to make as good at home.
Hence the stall is there to provide for us !
And (from memory) there are TWO prices, Small (£3.80) and Large (£5) which is the one you've seized on for your example.
Given that you wouldn't even touch this popcorn I don't know why you went for quoting the Large (£5) bag !!
Sometimes for a weekend treat people like to try the popcorn, you can obviously buy popcorn in the corners shops for £1, but it's pretty dire let's be honest.
If one spend's ones' decisioning time only interested in the cheapest of things, one will only get the lowest quality of things. If that's how you want to exist, fair play, but let the rest of us enjoy life a bit !
So, you buy your kernels from Co-Op and make tasteless popcorn, meanwhile everyone else can get decent gear down the market !

KK.

Ok I chose the £5.00 bag.. I did not know the price of the small bag..

like I said you could make 8 of the larger bags.

You could Probably make 10 - 12 bags of the smaller size.

Home made Popcorn is Super easy to make.. You can make it according to your needs.
You can add Salt.. Sugar... or Splenda.. Cinnamon .. anything you so wish..

It's fun to experiment...

Get the kids involved...

MY Popcorn is Not tasteless and I know what is in it .. How much Salt, Sugar, Glucose Syrup.

After all many of us are currently stuck at home with a lot of time on our hands..

Foxy

ETA...
You know as good as I, that Had I said how much I loved the Popcorn from the Market..
You would of lectured me on how easy it was to make delicious Popcorn at home.
