messageskateboarding at the Grove Pub car parkattachment
Posted by theo.hughes July 30, 11:58PM

I would just like to make a quick post about the unused space of the old grove pub. At the start of May a couple of us started clearing the two unused carparks of all its rubbish and glass on the floor. since then it has changed rapidly into a abit of a community project to make it as good as possible to skate. We have all collectively tried to keep people breaking in to the actual pub and tried to make everyone walking past feel welcomed to come and have a chat or even help out. Id just like to mention this space has been unused for 8 years. We have spoken to the police alot and they have been fine with us skating there for minimal complaints. The land owners are threatening to come in and have to knock our stuff down in order to get equipment in to make the pub more secured.

We have creatively turned an unused space into something much more valuable than most things can even account for.

If youve read this far then please take an extra minute to sign this petition. [chng.it] .

Thank you all.

This space has been transformed in the past couple months by a group of young creative people. Its agot a great community and will be sorely missed when it's gone.

Iíve signed the petition... These lads cleaned up a derelict wasteland and turned it into something positive. Thereís some real community spirit at the grove diy. Itís a good thing. Will be a shame to have it destroyed only to turn back into a wasteland.

Signed. I think this is a great initiative improving a very neglected and run down space.

Signed. This is an opportunity for the estate to actually do something positive by doing virtually nothing, let's hope they take it.
Might be worth getting a Councillor involved?
I'm very local and if you're improving an eyesore, which you are, then crack on.

May be try Helen Hayes, the local MP. I understand she was very helpful when Dulwich Hamlet had problems.

oh please i live right next door to the pub these lads r doing nothing wrong they are very polite and helpful group. They are trying to build a community where kids can go. If the land owners are so worried why dont they do something its a eye sore living next to it. And when the travellers where there we could not even open our front doors. These lads keep it clean and tidy and are no bother. Allow them to keep doing what there doing.
And dont listen to the few complaints u got cos i can tell you whos complained

Sounds like you have got in the way of a big landowner agenda in some way. More power to you.

Good luck Theo - it's a great initiative. Try and get some publicity for your project - it's much harder to try and stop something if a lot of people know about it!

Signed - itís been great to see some people making use of this while the Dulwich Estate lets it rot away until they finally browbeat Southwark into submission for a luxury flat development. Have you spoken to Andy Simmons - I think this is still in his area as councillor and heís always been helpful on stuff like this in the past?

We encourage all and everyone to come and skate it. Whether you are stepping on a board for the first time or for the 1000th you're welcome down at 'The Grove'
Just please make sure not to skate before 7AM and after 8PM to keep noise down for local residents! Thank you have fun!
