messageDISRUPTION UPDATE
Posted by SMBJones 01 December, 2010 14:40

Good afternoon

Apologies for delays today, this is a quick posting to inform you that Southern are experiencing severe delays and it is expected to get worse into the evening peak. Today we have had many many cancellations and delays of up to 90 minutes at London Bridge, this evening will not be any better I am afraid.

Metro services are operating with delays up to 50 minutes at the moment

We are unable to run between Crystal Palace and Beckenham Junction because of frozen points.

We are running shuttle services between Tattenham Corner and Purley and Caterham and Purley. The shuttle service will depart Tattenham Corner at 32 minutes past the hour, with the return service departing Purley at 02 minutes past the hour. The Caterham service will depart Caterham at 52 minutes past the hour, with the return service departing Purley at 22 minutes past the hour. This may also be subject to delays.

Gatwick Express services are suspended until further notice following the closure of Gatwick Airport.

South West Trains, Southeastern, First Capital Connect, London Underground, TfL buses and London Tramlink are accepting Southern tickets on all reasonable routes.

I will do what I can to update in another hour from now

Excellent, Barry.

Well not excellent weather, or excellent transport (though it's quite good, considering), but excellent communications! From 'Our Bazza'!

It's all about managing expectations, innit?

Good evening

Sorry to say the news is the same as before, up to 50 minute delays and last minute cancellations, we are doing everything in our power to get services out of London Bridge, concourse is busy but not as bad as last night. A lot of people have stayed away from work today

All stations are fully staffed in your areas to offer help and assistance where needed

Regards

Barry

Hi

For tomorrow, Southern plan to operate a full Metro service, although with more snow forecast for the next 24 hours, it is likely to again be subject to disruption, alterations and maybe some cancellations

All stations will be fully staffed in the morning to help with customer service and assistance. If you find that your ticket office is closed this will be down to staff clearing platforms of ice and snow which is a priority in respect of your safety. Please use Ticket Machines

If there are any changes to the above I will update at 2100hrs this evening and any major issues in the morning, again I will update around 0730hrs

Safe journey home

Barry

Morning, due to heavy snow fall and adverse weather all Southern services are suspended. A limited Southern service will begin in the London Metro Area at 10am

I will update when I have further information

Apologies for inconvenience

Hi

We are now running a half hourly service between London Bridge and East Croydon, departing at XX15 and XX45 and returning at XX20 and XX50. This service will stop at all stations.

We are currently clearing the route between London Victoria and East Croydon, and hope to introduce a half hourly shuttle service between these stations from 1000hrs. This will be a limited service with limited capacity.

The Brighton Mainline remains suspended, however we are working to clear this route to enable a service to run later today.

Thanks for the update. What are the actual departure times from ED to London Bridge then please?

messageRe: Station Manager Corner
Posted by SMBJones 02 December, 2010 09:45

Sorry, nothing for ED at the moment, London Bridge via Forest Hill to East Croydon, as soon as we have services from Peckham, Dulwiches etc, I will update

Good evening, I am afraid the update is more or less the same as earlier. There will be shuttle services tomorrow but not between Tulse Hill and South Bermondsey, this includes Peckham, North and East Dulwich, etc

I know this is not good news however we are doing everything possible to recover our services, track access etc

If anything changes I will update as soon as I have the information, please refer to our website for further updates

That's me done for the day!

Hi Barry,

Do you know if local busses / tubes are accepting rail season tickets whilst services are suspended / disrupted please ( I couldn't see anything on the Southern webpage about this)?

Thanks

Hi Goldilocks,
I have been flashing my season ticket to bus drivers all week and no one has said anything so I would say yes, if you have the annual ticket then your ticket covers route changes and disruptions anyway I think. Don't know about tubes though as you have to put it through the machine to get through the barrier...

I know its not Barrys Fault. But this is the second time this year we have been left with no trains. Will it be like last time when South Eastern Said "There were trains at Herne Hill so we wont give you any compensation " Only I think this time I will go to the regulator.

I think the buses and bus drivers have generally been brilliant.
amazing to think 8 tonne buses are out and about on icey roads but trains would appear more sensitive.

messageRe: Station Manager Corner
Posted by Jeremy 03 December, 2010 13:45

I can understand the disruption... but it's extremely frustrating when we have absolutely no idea when the service will be available again.

messageRe: Station Manager Corner
Posted by the-e-dealer 03 December, 2010 13:58

Nationl Rail site just showed delays when LBC had been told no trains into London from Sevenoaks or Dartform. Which decoded means no trains from Nunhead AT ALL.
The TFL Site wouldnt show bus details - I suspect it was underpowered. Clearly we are going to get more snow and the infrastucture needs to be improved to deal with it.

messageRe: Station Manager Corner

Sorry for delay responding

A couple of points

Buses/Tubes accepting Southern/Southeastern Tickets

The point regarding no trains East Dulwich, Peckham etc, I will deal with this after the weekend, sorry but can only deal with what we have out there. There will be meetings with department heads to discuss this week and the severe disrupton and will be addressing this issue

Lastly, we are planning to shut down the route from 1930hrs tonight, it has been a very difficult day to say the least. No service from London Bridge and Victoria after then.

Not a good week to say the least, I can only apologise for the inconvenience to your travel this week or lack of it should I say. I know there are numerous reports in the media, however you know I have always been open and honest with you. When I say that staff at Southern have worked non stop this week to get something running has been amazing. Staff have been very dedicated this week on the frontline getting in, walking miles, clearing snow. I also want to mention that staff behind the scenes at HQ/Control Centre have not stopped, trust me when I say it is not an easy task coordinating sever disruption of this magnitude. Lots of lessons to learn for sure, and we do have to rely on Network Rail to keep the routes open

I will do what I can to update for the remainder of the day

Regards

Barry

Thanks for the update Barry - I am sure you have had better weeks! Can we assume that there will be no trains from ED at the weekend too?

messageRe: Station Manager Corner

Hi

Unfortunately I can not confirm that at this stage, however based on today and what will happen tonight I dont think there will be any services tomorrow for East Dulwich, Peckham, North Dulwich etc

Really sorry...... Can I suggest looking at the Southern website tomorrow morning for the updates

Hi everyone

Does anyone know how much an annual season ticket from January will be from ED to LB? Trying to work out if it is worth buying it in December before the proposed price rises or not...
Checked the southern site but you can't see prices for Jan.
Thanks

messageRe: Station Manager Corner
Posted by SMBJones 06 December, 2010 11:34

Good morning

It would be raised from 576.00 per year to 620

Can someone please tell me how I can get a refund for last week's disruption? Can I get it from the station?

Hi,

On Saturday trains were running during the day from LB to ED, but when I got to London Bridge at 11pm they weren't running anymore. I was just wondering if that's likely to be the case again today, and if so if anyone knows what time the last train will be?

Thanks very much.
