social cycle ride Saturday Jan 5th 10am

Recommended Posts

Happy New Year to everyone.

These peaceful, two-hour, easy paced rides will continue in 2019. The starting points change but the general pattern is that the first Saturday starts at 10am Dulwich, 2nd Saturday at 10am at Canada Water; and the 4th Saturday at Peckham Square. The third Saturday rides are so-called plus rides which start at 9.30am at varying places and end at 1pm. The Plus rides are longer so they can go further but they are still easy-paced and welcoming.

This is a first Saturday ride so it starts at 10am in Dulwich at the Dulwich Clock Cafe in Dulwich Park (SE21 7BQ)and lasts two hours. The plan is to explore the Dulwich area covering about 10 miles on mostly quiet streets and paths. There are lots of points of interest including a working toll booth, one of UK's oldest football clubs, and even a castle!

Everyone welcome, whatever kind of bike or level of experience. These rides are organised by Bruce Lynn and friends on behalf of Southwark Cyclists who are the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign. The LCC campaigns for more safer and fun cycling in London.

These rides are intended to show how safe and fun cycling can be in our borough and beyond. The safe routes are suitable for commuting, shopping and getting kids out of the house. Cycling makes you happy, and keeps you healthy. Like everything we do it is free and for everyone, you don't need to join anything or live anywhere (though I hope you do).

    • In the great scheme of things running a red light is less serious than hand held mobile device or excessive speeding ie beyond that where a speed awareness course is usually the penalty.  Many drivers run red lights, many traffic lights do not have cameras.  It feels like many are either pretending that motorists do not regularly break the law or that it is trivial.

    • The empty shop that used to be The Dulwich Beer Dispensary on the corner of Lordship Lane and Melford Road has squatters in it. They moved in over the weekend - Sunday I think.
    • Hi all, My partner and I are the new owners of the shop. We have known and admired it for many years, and thought it would be an amazing place for us to live.  It has been left empty and has been neglected for a very long time. So there is a lot of work to be done.  We plan to fully restore the shop front, all original features and fix all the issues the building has. And turn it into our home.  Really excited for it all to begin. : ) If you have any questions please feel free to private message me. thanks
