longer social cycle ride Saturday March 16th 9.30am start

Recommended Posts

Mar 16th. Cutty Sark to Cody Dock.

This is one of the longer rides to stretch willing participants that bit more and take them to a wider range of places. It's still the usual easy-paced ride on mostly quiet streets and paths.

Amanda will be leading to Cody Dock, one of London's "hidden gems". Cody Dock sits in between London's new cable car, Canary Wharf and the Olympic Park. It was built in the 1870s and slipped through the cracks of east London?s regeneration, lying abandoned and sealed off for decades. It only needs a new pedestrian bridge to complete a continuous 26-mile riverside walk, running all the way from Hertfordshire to the Thames. They are fund-raising of course https://www.spacehive.com/codydock. On the way riders will use the Woolwich Ferry and perhaps see a plane take off from London City Airport.

This ride really needs nice weather and at the moment the forecast is the standard gale force winds plus rain so if the weathermen are right the route may change to the Olympic Park where you can get a coffee under cover. In either case the ride will start and finish in Cutty Sark Gardens, next to the Foot Tunnel (SE10 9HT). We meet at 9.30am. If anyone wants an escort from Canada Water (easily accessible by train from East Dulwich and Peckham) then meet Bruce there at 9am and he will escort you down the river. His phone no is 07729 279 945. Ride ends at 1pm.

These rides are run by Bruce Lynn and friends on behalf of Southwark Cyclists. We are a branch of the London Cycling Campaign. All our rides are run by insured ride leaders and open to all. They are free. You do not need to join anything or pay anything, live anywhere or do anything to take part. Everyone is welcome.

We are a charity and our charitable aims include promoting cycling because it is good for you. It's also fun. Our website is here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk. For more info email [email protected]
