cycling picnic Sat August 17th: weather forecast not bad

Recommended Posts

South London cycling's big social event of the year. The wettest August in living memory and they choose to hold it outside. Actually, the forecast for the day is not bad: light cloud and a moderate breeze. Surprise entertainment: slow bike race, musical bikes, etc.

There are multiple start points and the two that matter from our POV are 10am Dulwich Clock Cafe in Dulwich Park SE21 7BQ and 10.30am Peckham Square SE15 5JR. If you miss those there's a third at 11am Canada Water SE16 7AR. This will be the usual easy-paced ride on mostly quiet streets and paths. You can join route at any of 3 locations. Or just make your own way to Greenwich Park for 12 noon

Full route will start by leaving Dulwich Park via Court Gate and then down to Peckham Rye Park, Rye Lane and stop in Peckham Square to meet other riders. The enlarged group will go down the Canal Path to Glengall Rd, and the follow a bit of Quietway 1. Then across Southwark Park to next stop at Canada Water to collect yet more riders.

From there everyone will follow NR4/Thames-side route to Cutty Sark and into Greenwich Park to join Bexley Healthy Riders for the picnic. Fun games, food, squirrels, paddling pool, playground, big sandpit, Meridian Line, Royal Observatory, river views of east London and Canary Wharf. Something for everyone and everyone welcome.

Return ride starting about 2pm. Nine miles there, and nine back. The final riders probably won't be back in Dulwich until around 3.30, back at other start points a bit earlier. These delights are organised by Bruce Lynn and friends on behalf of Southwark Cyclists (and Bexley Cyclists) we are all part of the London Cycling Campaign whose website is here: https://lcc.org.uk/?ref=nav. Our website is here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk. You can contact us on [email protected], tweet us @southwarkcycle or text Bruce on 07729 279 945. Like everything we do this outing is free and open to all. The route is here:
