This is lovely ride along the River Ravensbourne. It starts with a train ride from Canada Water (suggestions on getting to Canada Water station further down) the weather forecast is clear, mild and the strongish wind is blowing south to north so should blow you home.

East Dulwich station is walk-on access with a bike and the Overground trains to Canada Water are across the platform at Peckham Rye. The lifts at Canada Water are very good and hold three bikes. The meeting place is outside Canada Water Library (Deal Porter Square, opposite CW Station, SE16 7AR) 10am so if you come by train you will need to come up and then go down again to catch the 10.08 am Overground train to Sydenham. The Overground is well-designed for carrying bikes and the lifts get you to the right platform at Canada Water. There's a good cycle route from East Dulwich to Canada Water and a map is here https://cycle.travel/map/journey/131783. If the suggested route isn't quite right for you cycle.travel is easy to change to fit.

Once in Sydenham the group will ride down to Bells Green and join the Waterlink Way (Nat Route 21). Turning north they will follow the Waterlink Way via Ladywell Fields and Brookmill Park until it meets Cycleway 1. From there they will follow Cycleway 1 through Deptford to Folkestone Gardens, on to Deptford Park, along Surrey Canal Linear Path and past Greenland Dock to Canada Water. Easy 1.5 hour ride with lots of off road paths. The map of the route is at

Please bring an Oyster or contactless card (fare ?1.50). Riders can also join ride at Sydenham Overground Station at 10.25am but please, please take on board that this is Sydenham not Sydenham Hill or Lower Sydenham. Ride reports and photos from Christmas rides and last Saturday's Dulwich ride are at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/.

    • Boiler serviced by Tommy, super efficent and clearly very knowlegable.  Def reccomend him.
    • Is Sadiq worried about voter apathy/protest votes? Just got another flyer through the door, it seems to be one every couple of weeks, suggesting the Tories are closer than any opinion poll suggests and that people should not vote for the Lib Dems or Greens.
    • I'm basing it on 20+ years cycling in London and seeing the absolute biggest rule-breakers being my fellow cyclists. I once stopped at a zebra crossing to let a man cross and a cyclist behind me called me a putain for stopping.  I've even witnessed a grown man aggressively ringing his bell and swearing at a four year old child for not getting out of his way.... on a footpath.... in Burgess Park.  I genuinely cannot remember the last time a cyclist stopped for me at a pedestrian crossing.  They give the rest of us cyclists and bad name and turn the traffic against us.
    • Sorry to hear and glad you and hopefully bike OK and doesn't put you off cycling. Please do inform the police even if that sounds a waste of time.  Do consider going to the Motor Insurance Bureau, the slush fund set up by insurers for untraced/uninsured motorists.
