Nancy Kerr & James Fagan, The Sparrow Down, Ian Kennedy & Sarah Lloyd: The Goose Is Out, The Ivy House 40 Stuart Road, London SE15 3BE. Friday 28 February, doors 7pm. https://www.wegottickets.com/thegooseisout

Nancy Kerr and James Fagan are one of the best-known and most experienced folk duos on the British circuit today. Outstanding musicianship, a lifelong grounding in traditional singing and instrumental playing, acclaimed original compositions but most noticeably a visceral chemistry between these two make Kerr and Fagan a perennial favourite at festivals, venues and clubs across the country. They appeared at The Goose previously as part of Melrose Quartet and we are delighted they are returning as a duo.

?Quite simply the most refreshing, impressive and compelling combo I?ve seen for ages?. John Kirkpatrick

?A real example of virtuosity being put to the service of the music.? Living Tradition

The Sparrow Down are a London based duo, drawing influences from old time Americana and contemporary folk musicians such as Richard Thompson, Pharis and Jason Romero, and Lau. Through the interplay between banjo, guitar and vocal harmony they create a sweet, full chorus of emotion.

Ian Kennedy & Sarah Lloyd have been stalwarts of our Singarounds ever since they started, as well as often doing floorspots at our Club Nights, singing as part of our ?local traditional singers? supports at concerts, and being absolute stars on the door and ticket table.

    • Can't help thinking that regardless of whether Joe wanted to be interviewed, the 'story' that Southwark News wanted to write just got a lot less interesting with 'tyre shop replaced with ... tyre shop'!
    • Labour are proposing to nationalise the railways, (passenger trains but not fright)  Whilst it removes them from shareholders control, and potential profit chasing, is it workable or will it end up costing tax payers more in the long run?  On paper the idea is interesting but does it also need the profitable freight arm included to help reduce fares,?
    • Another recommendation here for Jason.  He came to plaster over a section of ceiling that we had to remove in order to investigate a leak.  He is a really lovely guy, easy to get in touch with and great communication.  He was quick, tidy and competitively priced.  Very happy and I'd have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone.
