  1. Has removable covers, unfortunately one cover has ripped and removed Collect from north dulwich
  2. No one knows if they want peace or Hamas in charge, because there have been no elections since 2006 when they purged the Gaza strip of Fatah (around 1000 executed) The march is just to assuage western guilt over past colonial endeavours and the racist actions of some of their fellow citizens Israelis and Jews are largely western (in politics, attitude and culture) so let's march against them - they're just like us, so fair game - nice easy target - every socialist/anarchist hates them. Much easier and less devisive amongst the left than than protesting against Pakistan forcibly deporting 1.7m Afghanis or Iran recently chairing a UN conference on human rights Good 'ol dose of anti-semitism and conspiracy theories in there as well ... Israel planned it etc etc
  3. Before you go off to march this weekend, consider Yahya Sinwar the Hamas mastermind of Oct 7th Whilst in Israeli prison for murdering 2 Israelis and 4 Palestinians, in 2008 his life was saved with an operation to remove a brain tumour. He was freed in exchange for Gilad Shalit, and proceeded to murder a senior Hamas command for homosexuality. Now consider that you are also supporting Iran. Oct 7th was orchestrated by Iran, they supplied intelligence, training, advanced jamming equipment and weapons. Their goal is to de-stabilise the region, they deeply resent further progress of the Abraham Accords which would see Saudi, the Gulf states and Israel establish a united front against theocratic Iran and their ally Russia. This is a proxy battle for the democratic pluralistic west against the theocracy, hegemony and facism of Iran, China and Russia.
  4. Yes, Southwark quaking in their boots with the investigative journalism prowess of the daily mail and southwark news
  5. As usual, wise and considered words from ex-dulwicher It's funny how all the conspiracy fodder on here moan about the cycling lobby, biased academia and the "league of lycra" - some shadowy lycra clad organisation behind the scenes pulling the strings over motoring policy in London, when the oil lobby knew about climate change decades ago and has been actively lobbying and spreading climate change denial ever since. The motor manufacturing and road building lobby also spend millions each year.
  6. Yes, in the mid 1800s every household had 1, 2 or even 3 horse and carts parked outside their house Sports utility carts with 2 horses were quite popular in this area as well
  7. Yes, I agree whole heartedly, let's extend the victoria line to dulwich village and the plough on LL It should only cost a billion or two, and there is such a high population density with all the surrounding detached and semi-detached housing with large gardens and driveways
  8. Yes, push for it to be tested for PCBs, heavy metals, PFOAs, Sarin, Novichok, DDT, Anthrax and the most deadly of all dihydrogen oxide. Better safe than sorry!
  9. It's very basic physics: * Wind resistance is exponential to speed of vehicle * F=MA higher the acceleration, more force (=fuel/pollution) needed * Energy lost through braking greater at higher speeds, although EV/hybrid can recover a lot through regenerative braking The engine may be slightly more efficient at higher speeds, this is trivial compared to the energy expended on the 3 above As you know best though, please enlighten the world on dark matter, superstring theory and grand unification of the electrostatic and gravitational forces. There's a nobel waiting for you.
  10. Landlord has to pay £600 or so for a 3 year license to rent and submit a load of docs: plans, EPC, fire report etc In theory, the fee goes towards employing more inspectors, in practice I susepect it just pays for the admin of the scheme. There will still be rogue landlords, and the compliant landlords will raise rent to cover the costs
  11. Great timing for tenants, yet another reason for landlords to sell up
  12. I could have guessed, but medivet are owned by private equity: https://www.vettimes.co.uk/news/private-equity-firm-buys-medivet/
  13. Looks like medivet have tweaked the attention of the CMA: https://www.gov.uk/cma-cases/medivet-group-limited-slash-multiple-independent-veterinary-businesses-merger-inquiries
  14. If you're fed from a telegraph pole then obviously things are a lot easier and you're install can usually be done in a few hours with one visit. This site: https://bidb.uk/ shows you all the council work notices (obstruction of pavements/roads) by telecoms companies around your postcode, you can see the various works they are doing like laying new ducts, desilting and clearing blockages for the trunks and customer connections.
  15. There are battery backup solutions available, I believe openreach will supply a 1 hour backup unit to vulnerable customers: https://www.bt.com/help/landline/fibre-home-phone-service--questions-about-the-battery-back-up-un You can buy a UPS that will provide for longer periods I think those who lost power for a week are in extreme rural areas, and having a couple of fully charged battery packs for a mobile is well recognised practice, A spare nokia dumb phone would also be prudent as they have battery life of a couple of weeks, use in conjunction with a couple of large usb batteries would give you a couple of months.
