  1. Great sentimental value. If found, please post here. Thank you
  2. The 3 dishes we had were delicious and the service friendly and efficient. However, the 'Papad & Pickle' (a broken papadum with 2 tiny dishes of Chutney and yogurt sauce) at £5.5 and the Tandoori Roti at £3.50 are totally overpriced and should be complementary considering the above average prices of the main dishes.
  3. We instructed Russell Perring (RJP Roofing and Building Ltd.) based on the numerous recommendations on this forum to fix the top of a party wall. He was very helpful, friendly and professional and carried out the works to our complete satisfaction at a reasonable price. We will certainly instruct him again for future roofing jobs and whole-heartedly recommend him and his company.
  4. Today, I called Julian of Hydro Smart https://invitari.co.uk/ based on the above recommendation on 07500 903 965 for a small gutter repair job. He came 10 minutes later and having explained how he would do it fixed the gutter within an hour for a reasonable price. Very friendly and professional: he accepted credit card payment and promptly emailed the receipt and a 1-year guarantee. Booked him already for another roof job and will contact him for window cleaning next spring.
  5. I have taken my vintage 40-year old Di Blasi folding bike to Balfe's Bikes Dulwich on 2 occasions (punctured tyre and gear problems) and another bike that needed the the gear change wire replaced. On all occasions, the Balfe's guys were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable - and managed to fix the problems. Definitely recommend them!
  6. Unbelievable waste! This photo taken in July of at least 50 loaves left outside the Brick House Bakery demonstrates a lack of social conscience. Why not donate them to food charities??
  7. I just send the following message to our Southwark MPs Harriet Harman, Helen Hayes and Neil Coyle and would encourage everybody in Dulwich to send a similar message if you are - like me - appalled by the indiscriminate distribution of 'never-use' plastic bags by charities. Dear Southwark MPs, The government successfully introduced pricing for 'single-use' plastic bags; thus reducing their use considerably. But the amount of 'never-use' plastic bags indiscriminately distributed by charities to every household in the borough (and country) is appalling! As a resident of Southwark (East Dulwich), I received more than 30 bags in less than 3 years (see attached photo)!!! Multiply that by the number of households in the borough (and country), this will amount to a huge mountain of plastic never used that will eventually land on landfills or worse: in the oceans. Environmentally very irresponsible! The worst 'offender' seems to be the Macmillan Cancer Support accounting for 12 of my 30 bags. While I understand the need of charities to raise funds for their good causes, they should consider the impact of their distribution of 'never-use' plastic bags and find ways to avoid this environmentally bad practice. Perhaps they could use compostable and bio-degradable bags could instead, collect their bags for re-distribution, provide bags on request only, or similar. Please use your influence to eliminate the distribution of 'never-use' plastic bags. Thanks!
  8. We gave Mr. Liu a try a few years ago, but having been charged 50 pence for a tiny dish of chilli sauce and another 50 pence for a few cut chilles, we never went back. Neither the food nor the atmosphere was anything to shout about. Hopefully the new owner will make a positive difference.
  9. A CPZ 2-hours during the day would keep commuters out of the area without much impact on local shops and restaurants being frequented by people from outside the area. However, why is Southwark Council proposing a 'parklet' in Zenoria Street in front of the 'Brickhouse' bakery, thus giving them free outside seating space maintained by the council?!? Did 'Brickhouse' suggest/ask for it?!? This is a residential street, thus customers (often with babies and toddlers) chatting there all day would be a real nuisance. And with the EDT just across the street, what would stop drinkers to use the parklet in the evening generating even more noise (and rubbish)? Even if the CPZ goes ahead, that parklet should not be implemented!
  10. Does anybody know whether the Malaysian Deli on 338 Brockley Road is open again as I think it was closed for a while. Telephone calls remain unanswered. And if the answer is 'yes', any recent reviews? Thanks!
  11. We needed some plumbing work, exterior painting of 1st floor window sills and replacement of a door threshold done. Having seen the numerous recommendations for TDR Dulwich Property Maintenance, we contacted Tony for a quote, which was very prompt and reasonable. He and his friendly team finished the works to our complete satisfaction and it was a pleasure working with them. We will definitely contact them again when we need maintenance to our property and recommend them without hesitation.
  12. Recommendation moved to 'TDR Dulwich Property Maintenance' page.
  13. We recently had our garden landscaped by Acer Homes and Gardens (http://www.acer-homes-gardens.co.uk), which involved levelling most of the garden area (about 4 skips of concrete and soil), building low retaining walls on 3 sides, laying artificial turf on half the garden and decking the remaining patio area. Following site visits from 3 other companies, we received a detailed quote from Acer, a company based in ED (you often see their smart-looking vans in the area), and chose them based on their knowledge, advice and professionalism. Their team guys worked hard, they were very polite, cleaned up every evening, and did an excellent job. Throughout the process, the friendly Acer management team was at hand at short notice, always responded to phone calls, regularly checked progress on site, emailed receipts of payment and acted in a very professional manner. The works were carried out to our complete satisfaction and we would not hesitate to use them again and to recommend them. You can reach Patrick on 020 -8674-7719 or 07841 340 898 or Phillip on 020-8674-7719 or 07732 329 155.
  14. I recently moved to East Dulwich and am looking for a table tennis club in or near East Dulwich or an opportunity to play regularly.
