He wasn't head of the KGB. But he has been in situ as leader for 30 years now so to hold on to that for that length of time does take organisational acumen and ruthlessness. OK, he now controls the media and ruthlessly eliminates dissent but he must have some unrecognised ability/skill. He is capo de capo in the biggest Mafiosi structure ever. Such types are always at risk of being toppled by younger and more ruthless lieutenants/colonels. I can only put it down to how Russians for centuries have been subject to control, serfdom, oppression and brutality coupled to brain washing. And he milks the legacy of triumph ion the Great Patriotic War , 1941-1945. Most still believe Stalin was a hero. The majority go along with it but the young brighter ones are now emigrating. Of those who emigrate, some will have their stay-behind relatives threatened and victimised by the KGB. This happened under Stalin and the result was that many emigres were forced into espionage on the promise that their relatives would be let-off if the ?migr? cooperated.
  9. He's a pathetic public speaker. He totally lacks charisma He is shifty eyed He neve has a lady on his arm He must have modelled himself on Stalin. Give Hitler his due, he had a much better public persona.

OK, aircraft have such " information-emitters" with their ID transponders but can you image the outrage from the civil libertarians if cars were fitted with such devices. Better to have simple visual differentiators that would be visible on CCTV so you can have plausible deniability when challenged.
  11. Because they steal plates for the exactly match their car (Make/mode/colour/etc) the best thing to do to thwart them is to have some feature that makes your car unique. It need only be a roof rack, stripes or sticker inside the front and rear windows. That way when you get stopped and accused of, say , filling up without paying, y=they can check the CCTV against your car and you will be safe. A totally non-descript popular model car in a common colour is at risk. Create some differentiating feature and you will be safe.
  12. Not sure we will ever get back to 6 per hour because ever since the upgrade at London bridge the traffic through to Charing Cross has been prioritised and also there are frequent hold-ups at points incoming to platforms 13, 14 and 15.
  13. Yes, had an attempted theft of plates when my car was temporarily parked up on Wood Vale. I came to back to my car I noticed that the front plate was hanging down at one side and the other from the rear was on the floor nearby. Obviously I had disturbed them when the theft was in progress. It seems the perps go after popular older cars such as my 10 year old silver grey Zafira. I since ordered a set of 4 anti theft clutch security screws and re-attached them. I would advise everyone to do the same. Only cost ?3.
