  1. We also use Gasparette. We live in East Dulwich. Her agency cleaners (we tend to get the same two every week) are very reliable and clean to a very high standard. They are good value and dependable. Would recommend!
  2. Thank you all for some very good suggestions! All noted. To answer the poster who asked - really our main aim is to get the tree growth managed/restricted so that the tree can do no further damage... It is not necessarily to recoup any costs (we could just about fund the rebuilding of the front wall ourselves, which would be a bit galling but so be it if necessary...) I?ll check out the other thread, too. These street trees are beautiful BUT it is such a shame the council 1) seems to have planted inappropriate trees, in places, and/or 2) hasn?t maintained them as it should.
  3. We strongly suspect a council owned tree, on the pavement in front of our house, is causing damage to our front boundary wall. The problem has been worsening over the past year and the wall is close to collapse. We have obtained a surveyors report which indicates the cause of the damage to our boundary wall (and that of a neighbour?s to our left) is very likely the tree and its unrestricted growth over the past 3 years (it has not been pruned or maintained during that time). The council have refuted our claim in initial correspondence (they say the removal of another neighbour?s front boundary hedge two years ago has caused the issue, but have provided no surveyor?s report or other evidence....) and do not propose to take any further action (which includes maintenance to /planing of the tree). We are also not covered by our home insurance to progress a claim via them since the boundary wall apparently does NOT form part of the insured property as defined under the policy. We would like to obtain some legal advice to work out how/if we can progress this further. The cost of repairing the front wall is one thing. Our main worry is the council?s ongoing lack of maintenance to the tree - which we fear could result in further damage to the wall and (worryingly) the house. Can anyone help? Does anyone have any recommendations for decent solicitors with expertise in this area?
  4. Colin came out on a Sunday and did a fantastic job on our sockets! Would highly recommended him.
  5. Gerry was very quick to get to us to look at our broken boiler (which appeared to keep breaking down even after it had been put back to life several times...) and would not stop until a complete fix had been identified! Even with a super troublesome boiler. All other plumbers said they?d be out the afternoon of the following day - if that - whereas Gerry called me within minutes and came out to see me first thing. His communication was excellent throughout and pricing was very fair. I would highly recommend him (and I don?t often put recommendations on the forum...) Give him a go first! 07872 303925
  6. Another recommendation for Roger from a satisfied East Dulwich resident. He is affable and effective! (There?s been no more sign of Mr Mouse.) He?s also a fraction of the cost of other pest control companies. Very happy with his service and would willingly pass on his details to friends and family.
  7. My partner and I ate a lovely lunch st Monkatsu today. We were given a free miso soup (tasty) followed by sushi and sashimi for me and a mixed Katsu curry for him. Plus a couple of glasses of wine. Service was charming. ?40 all in. We shall be going back!
  8. This is a very-well earned result for Harris school, for all the students and parents, and for our wider local community. I am a year one parent and I have watched my daughter blossom at Harris. It is such a fantastic school - it excels both pastorally and academically. I am looking forward to watching the school grow. Huge "well done" to the teaching and leadership team!
  9. I've had a disappointingly installed flat roof, which leaked after only a year.. Dave and colleague were quick to come to look at it, diagnose the issue and assess what needed doing (which wasn't to completely re-do the roof!), and bustle back to fix it. This was all in a matter of days - and not months... They've previously re-done my guttering, too. All was fairly priced and very well-executed. Most importantly for me, there's clearly real pride taken in their work. I would recommend them highly.
  10. The amount of childcare and cost (to you) is irrelevant. He is legally required to pay maintenance at the government rate. (As is surely correct - because the cost of raising children are not limited to the expense of their childcare...) However the amount of maintenance he needs to pay will be proportionately reduced according to the number of nights the children spend at his. The amount will also be reduced if he goes on to have any further children, and even if (although this is controversial, i think it is still the case) he starts living with a new partner who has children... Do get legal advice on your position. Best of luck with sorting everything out!
  11. Well I've jsut used Andy for interior stuff (bed assembly, mounting things on walls, etc) and can definitely give a recommendation!! I'm sure he'll be good with gardens too. His number is 07564 194363
  12. I've just used SPD property. More than happy to recommend Sean Doyle (builder/owner) 07920021718 and his team. They're just finishing up my extension/side return project in SE22. They do a lot of terraces in east dulwich/camberwell /peckham. Sean gave me a reasonable quote and he's always been very responsive. It has been a stress free build! His website: http://www.spd-property.co.uk/ L
  13. thanks MissMP. I just wanted to check it would still be open on Easter Saturday, as normal .... So fingers crossed it will be!
  14. Hi all I've had a card posted through my letter - missed delivery from the post office. No details on the card, not even a name or whether it was "too large", "signed for" etc. It may be a cheque I'm awaiting so quite keen to get my hands on it. Will the delivery office be open on Saturday morning? Thanks all
  15. Hi all I am looking for someone (architect/draughtsman) to respond to several queries which have been raised by Southwark building control. Back in December I made a full plans building control application. Southwark building control have all my planning permission drawings and structural calculations and drawings but have come back with some requests for a few revisions to the plans (eg showing drainage, ventilation, insulation, etc). My original architect is unable to assist me for various reasons. So whoever steps in would need to be happy to amend the original drawings and be willing to get stuck in. Please help! My build is due to start shortly! Thank you
