  1. This is standard: you pay for the place, whether it's a 3 day, 4 day, or whatever place; not for the days your child is actually there. Same with childminders.
  2. My kids do modern/Jazz and tap (as well as ballet) on saturdays with The South London Dance Academy. They have sites at Harris Girls on Homestall Road / Peckham Rye and a few minutes away at Ivydale School on Inverton Road. I can't recommend it enough - high standards but a relaxed approach (no scary teachers). They're currently prepping for the biannual show at the end of Feb but I'm sure will be welcoming new kids to try it out from March.
  3. So sorry to hear this. Sadly the online form unlikely to get you anywhere. My partner was attacked by a driver on pomeroy street in nunhead recently: the driver deliberately blocked him, then tried to run him over, then drove through a red light, caught up with him on kender street grabbing him from his bike, slamming him into a wall and only when my partner screamed, attracting a lot of attention, did the driver get back in his car and drive off. We have heard nothing from the police. Earlier this year, another driver verbally abused me through Evelina road while I had my small children on the bike; threatened me; kept revving and swerving sideways towards us to frighten us. I reported online with video, photos and a full number plate. I have heard nothing from the police. I?m frightened by the increase in road rage I?ve experienced and witnessed this year and it is absolutely made more frightened by the apparent lack of action/interest by the police.
  4. Perhaps it?s less the size of the school than the culture of the school and efficiency of the the SENCO team that matters? No personal experience I?m afraid but my kids are at a 2-form entry school which seems to have great inclusive SENCO approach. My kids are in year 2 and reception and each class in those year groups has at least one child with autism and one to one TA support. Meanwhile I know the story is v different at another local school where children with any kind of additional needs are actively managed out. Both schools outstanding on paper.
  5. You need a plumber, to fit a rat trap/flap (can?t remember what it?s actually called) to the toilet. They should all have them fitted but often don?t. A rat chewed its way out of the flexi waste pipe into our downstairs loo on and I was horrified, but it was q easily fixed and no more problems in the 7 years since.
  6. nina, I have preschoolers. Friends have babies, preschoolers and young kids. Of course it isn't ideal but "not an option" - seriously? It is the ONLY option currently for the vast majority of people in this situation. I am very grateful that I am not on my own, my partner and I are splitting our time so we can each get work down away from the kids. It is a lot harder if you are on your own, like some colleagues and friends. But the idea that it is simply not an option is only something you would argue if, in fact, you have another option. Furlough your nannies if you can, and if you can't work from home, leave the children at home with their other parent or get yourself furloughed.
  7. Hi Jellybean I have a daughter in reception at HTG and we are very happy with the school. We had very little feedback prior to starting apart from a couple of neighbours who were very happy with it. Honestly, I love it. The reception teaching has been fantastic, creative and much less pressured than I feared while still stretching our child who is one of the oldest. Communication between the school and parents is excellent, the wrap around care is accessible and easy to sort. I did find the wait between offers and actually going in for settling in days etc a bit unnerving but later this term they do run meet and greets etc. PM me if you want any other info x
  8. The Suffolk coast - walberswick, orford etc - is great for families with crabbing, boating etc. We are planning a new forest break with our preschoolers but haven?t been yet
  9. Lol EP212 Norfolk is not 1.5 hours even from north London, let alone east dulwich, even if you drive like a maniac (as my dad does).
  10. My kids go to the Montessori and I just wanted to add a voice of reassurance re outside space, which I?m sure applies to other nurseries too - the kids get lots of outside time with activities set up eg balancing beams, ride on toys, organised games, free flow stuff, sand and water tables etc plus they got to the parks a lot. There?s also a new nursery at the bottom of Erlanger road which is supposed to be lovely, I think it?s called cheeky monkeys or similar
  11. We used a fleece all in one suit for the 1yr old instead of a sleeping bag. This year planning to use fleece pjs and duvet
  12. my 4.5 year old and 21month old love little explorers, as well as the Telegraph hill playclub (craft for the 4yr old)
  13. I had baby #1 at kings and my antenatal care was frustrating, I never saw the same person twice, and they only told me at the last minute that I was out of catchment for a home birth despite me flagging early that I was trying to clarify this. However, my actual birth was brilliant (ok it was 3 days of hell but the midwives were great). I believe my experience while not uncommon wasn't the same for everyone - and they've since changed their midwive caseload model. My second baby was a home birth with st thomas' riverside midwifery team and it was every bit as great as I'd hoped. My caseload midwifery experience was unfaultable, and the actual experience of scans etc was much smoother than kings - no massive waits, easy to talk to people etc. I didn't really care about this - I'd only signed up for St T because I wanted a home birth if possible. Honestly there isn't that much in it really, and I would happily recommend Kings, but I do feel like St Thomas overall was an unexpectedly better experience.
  14. Or sell them / rent them? I'm expecting baby no.2 imminently and my lovely midwife has dropped off the promised birth pool - but it doesn't come with anything! I knew I'd need a new liner, which I can buy online, but does anyone have the filling/emptying kit or other bits and pieces they could part with? Like the air pump, water pump for emptying it etc... I've looked online and to buy all the bits and pieces will be ?100 which is more than if we hired the whole kit or bought unused from another parent anyway! Thanks. And apologies for cheekiness.
