Dear All

Please forgive me for posting a message on a topic that is not something that many people want to think about, but this is a subject close to my heart and a charity that I support. It's also a subject that all women should be aware of so please do take a few minutes to have a read and look at The Eve Appeal website.

'The Eve Appeal is launching September as Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month and encouraging women all over the country to get talking and be aware of the signs and symptoms of the five gynaecological cancers. The earlier a cancer is detected, the higher a woman's chance of survival. The Eve Appeal want to encourage women to get to know their bodies and be aware of what to look out for. See [the website] for the signs and symptoms of the five gynaecological cancers and share this vital information with all of the women in your life.'

As I mentioned above, this is a very personal subject for me. My mother died from Ovarian cancer in May 2010 when I was 4 months pregnant with my son. She was only diagnosed 3 months beforehand despite having regular check-ups with her doctor in the preceding years. This type of cancer can be very difficult to detect but organisations like The Eve Appeal (and others such as Ovacome) are working hard to raise awareness.

I'm not asking for you to donate or get involved. I just would not wish what my family went through on anyone, so please - make yourself and others aware of the symptoms.

I wasn't sure where to post this so have plumped for the Family Room as it's where I most often visit.

Thanks for reading,

BF

It is very selfless of you to think of others during what I imagine is still a difficult time.

Agree with SW but maybe also post this message in the Lounge, as some women who do not have children (or have adult children) may not visit the Family section?

Thank you for posting about this x
