?100 is a fair price (that's what I've done it for). But I guess it'd be (a lot) more if you got a 'proper' DJ from, say Yellow Pages. But in my experience anyone who's hired someone they don't know to DJ at their wedding has always regretted it. They always end up playing the wrong stuff. Try and get someone you know to do it if you can.

Good grief. I think ours at our wedding was about ?350 but I might be wrong. I may have the invoice knocking about somewhere. This was with all equipment as well! To address the playing the wrong thing problem, our DJ asked for a list of tunes we wanted played - we gave him about 100 and he taileored the rest of the set around it. He could obviously work out our musical taste (terrible) from the list we had given him.

Don;t underestimate the utter laugh of karaoke at a wedding too! When everyone is boozed and drugged up it can be hillarious!

I've always paid between ?150 - ?200 for club dj's. Go out to a club you like the music to, and ask any dj who plays well and creates agood vibe if they do private functions.

You need to find out if they have to bring their sound system too tho, cos some charge seperatly for that.

I would definitely give them a list of what you want and more importantly a list of what you DON"T want. My best friend did this and it worked well. She also asked each guest to RSVP with a song to be played - although I guess you need to screen these (unless you have mates with exceptionally good music taste!)

Hi,

I have a 3k kick ass sound system, laser and lights. I was in the top three of the UK DJ of the year competition and charge ?125.In East Dulwich only because it is fun and enjoyable.

A different matter when I have to present a live roadshow in the summer at county show's Gala's etc, because I have to travel the day before (in case of a breakdown) I charge upwards of ?1k and have only 3-4 dates left. When asked what I am like my agent states that I am a cross between Steve Wright and Chris Evans. Thinking, I am not sure if that is a compliment.

Ha Ha,

I have had great fun over the last few years doing corporate functions where we are billed as the 'Sunshine Boy's Not only doing the barbie but dj'ing at the same time. If cooking is busy we slap a mix on for ten minutes.

It has also proved extremely profitable as the client believes he gets value for money, and also that there is only one accountable person.

By the way do you drive a Aston Martin?

Regards,

Libra Carr.

    • Caught him a few years ago at a bizarre gig in Canterbury and know his London agent.  Sad but he wants a well man.  It was a pleasure to have seen him a few times, always different!  Hadn't realised he had been a local.
    • Stewart Lee, who I have seen numerous times, played a gig 18 months ago in Peckham, turning up late and doing around 12 mins of an expected headliner slot.  He has no social media presence and is uncontactable.  I complained to the ticket agents and promoters to no avail.  Obviously I wouldn't boycott a paper due to this incident. With hard copy print declining more liberal media need support irrespective of how easy it is to pick holes.  The decline of regional and local papers has compounded the issue of so many drawing their information from the right wing/populist press, and unverified reports on social media.
    • Avoid companies that are run by non trades people Seems to be the trend lately. Check them on Companies house first. There are some great family companies or sole traders. Great work. Also though we did not use them in the end ANR Roofing based in Wimbledon offered some sound advice and quote.  Also very lovely family run firm. And Crest Roofing based in EC1V 2NX came and gave a quote and seemed very lovely with some advice also. 07934 975769
