What do people think about the new shelters that have been erected on either side of the platforms at ED Station?

Both shelters will definitely offer better protection from the weather, but.....

* Do they have enough seats?

* Are they too cramped?

* Where are the litter bins? It looks like they've been designed so that litter simply blows away - all over the surrounding area!

* What's going to happen to the very serviceable seating that is now stacked up alongside them? Will it be just left to rust away?

Was this money well spent?

I did wonder if anyone else had concerns about the increased potential for rubbish build-up in the wildlife area behind the new platform shelters, arising from the gap at the back.

This morning, waiting for the late running 9.31 to London Bridge, I had plenty of opportunity to observe the stack of undistributed Metro newspapers, dumped in the corner next to the top of the path, being agitated by the wind and threatening to blow through. These and anything else dropped on the floor will be able to make a seamless habitat transition and become lodged amongst the brambles, awaiting archaeological discovery some time in the next century.

Surely some bins wouldn't be too much to expect?

    • I'm all for good design v bad design (accepting that can be subjective) but I suspect most people formally and actively objecting to this (and many similar schemes across the country) aren' TOO exercised by the design - it's just blocking for blocking sake and is a major reason this country can't build anything If we are going to house people, not everyone is going to have a parking space or garden - sorry kids. look to Europe and other parts of the world where denser housing is more commonplace. I can't see any reason why a major capital like London can't build schemes of this scale
