free - art books offered to schools, art clubs, local artists etc

Recommended Posts

I'm having a sort out of art books - see updated images of what's available. Some are on art techniques (oils, acrylics, drawing watercolour and specific themes) and also ones on specific themes (how to paint landscapes, still life etc) and others on specific artists.

I've given a lot to our local SE22 charity shops but just found some more! As charity shops are not able to accept more books at the moment, I wondered if there are any local schools or art groups etc who may like some?

Alternatively, if any local artists would like some of these, the books belonged to my Dad who was an artist and who is now suffering from dementia and is in a care home, so I'd like anyone who takes some to make a small donation to 'Dementia UK' charity.https://www.dementiauk.org

There is an Oxfam shop in Herne Hill specifically for books.

If they can't sell them there, I think they take them for other shops, and also I believe sell any they think may be worth a fair bit elsewhere.

The shop is opposite the smaller Oxfam shop by the Half Moon, near the 37 bus stop where you would get the bus to East Dulwich/Peckham.

I don't know whether they would collect, but one of their volunteers might if you phoned and explained the situation?

If they can't take them, they may be able to suggest alternatives? They were very helpful when I took a load of books there a while back, but it probably depends who you speak to.

ETA: I wonder also whether local schools or art colleges may be interested?

thanks for all the helpful replies so far. Sue - thanks for the suggestion of the Oxfam bookshop in Herne Hill - they are keen to have one box at least - there are still lots more boxes left!

If anyone else can suggest other local charities or art projects who can use them, do let me know

Paul - I've replied to your message by PM thanks

Update:- I?ve donated a lot of the books to the Mind shop on Lordship Lane as they said they could use lots and were happy to unload our car outside their shop! We didn't expect them to take so many

(I'd already given some to the Oxfam bookshop in Herne Hill)so if you wanted to nip into either of those shops I'm sure they are selling them at reasonable prices.

I've now sorted through hundreds of my Dad's art magazines - mostly 'The Artist' and

Leisure painter, 'Artists and Illustrators' and International Artist so if you were

interested in art mags too, I've just posted details of them on the forum 'for sale' section:-

Here's an example of just a few of the many magazines I've got:-

Update - I've just added photos of the art books currently available to my original post at the top. Available to pick up safely at a social distance from my front door just off Northcross road SE22, daytime or evening.

AI suggests: Upcycling old cheque books can involve repurposing the paper from old checks into creative items like notebooks, journals, art pieces, gift tags, bookmarks, decorative paper, or even small boxes, by cutting, decorating, and assembling the paper to create new functional or decorative objects, while ensuring any personal banking information is properly obscured or removed.
