Hi all,

I was wondering if you are aware of the plans to regenerate Peckham Rye station. Basically it's my understanding that Southwark Council were planning to build a new public square outside the station, and sweep away about 60 or so businesses that will be replaced with new tenants (for more information, scroll down to item 12 on this page: http://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=302&MID=4253#AI27873)

However Peckham Vision, which is a group of local residents and businesses that wants a more 'integrated town centre', has opposed the plans to kick out the current businesses, saying they are too drastic. The result of their opposition means that Southwark council will now not be able to remove existing tenants so easily.

I was just wondering what everybody's thoughts are on this? While I don't want to see a Peckham filled with Costa coffee shops and chain stores, I do think the area around the station is smelly, dirty and is really in need of some sort of investment.
