Next weekend (18/19 May) I find myself alone in London as Mrs MM visits old friends in the country.

What to do?

My preference would be a good film or stage performance followed by a good meal. Ideally I'd like to challenge usual routines, so not West End theatre or mainstream cinema blockbusters and equally am looking for somewhere less obvious to eat out at.

Suggestions received gratefully!

From what we know about Marmora Man, this seems unlikely.

If I was eating on my own, I'd probably head to somewhere like Spuntino, where you can sit at the bar and order a few small plates and a get a decent drop of wine/beer. Gets busy, but should be OK for an early dinner or late lunch.

I'm not the biggest Theatre buff, but there seems to be interesting things going on at the Soho Theatre, and "The Shed" (temporary 'fringe' theatre venue next to the National Theatre).

Are there any local hostelries/restaurants Mrs MM favours but which you can't stand and only visit with her to make her happy?

If so; visit these alone, get outrageously drunk and thoroughly disgrace yourself. Then explain to Mrs MM, on her return, why you can never go there again.

Jeremy may be correct in guessing MM's preference but I'm with Aq Moon. I love a day or two to myself and would hit the gym in the morning or walk to Nunhead to buy fish, mess about in my garden during the afternoon, go out for a few late afternoon pints locally with a paper, head back, stick some good tunes on and cook up something manly with a stiff Negroni followed by a fine bottle of red. Then late night telly then bed.

Repeat on Sunday as required. I could live a life like that quite happily.

This would be very similar to my day, but replacing garden jinx with time spent making music and late telly with with an xbox session.

The negroni, food and bottle of red are absolutely spot =on.

Whisky always features - currently enjoying a superb 21 year old Caol Ila.
