Hello, I wonder if anyone has experience of being a Southwark council leaseholder in a top floor flat and buying the loft space to do a conversion? I understand the council charge for this due to increase in value. It would be great to have a rough idea of how much they charge. Thanks

Several metrics involved - area and volume of loft, services in existing cavity affecting other unit(s) especially if there are council tenants also in the building, likely value of existing units, local precedents, likely value of output unit post conversion, condition of existing units and roof, surveys and party wall costs, and legal fees (plan to pay theirs as well as yours). Plan for Southwark to say no to your application at your cost. Plan for tens of thousands if they say yes. Remember they can still say no to some types of conversion plans even when you've managed to buy the loft - so also plan for the most meek of conversions before you do anything else.

Anyone else got any crisper suggestions?

    • I have been attending Gokay Fitness for approximately 18 months and mainly take part in weekly group sessions to build on strength fitness.  Having been a runner for 10 years I considered myself fairly fit with good cardio ability but I was keen to improve on my strength.  During my time at Gok Fitness I have also had 1:1 personal training after a two months bout of pneumonia when I felt I was not ready to return to group classes and Gok and a member of his team, Ilona,  worked with me on a reduced 1:1 programme, which was perfect to restore my energy and strength over a six week recuperation period. More recently I have attended group Hyrox classes and a friend and I took part in this competition as a pair a couple of weeks ago.  The training gave us a good insight into the Hyrox event and got us “Hyrox fit” with very little aches or pains after the occasion. My experience with all of Gokay’s staff has been brilliant and the “hub” is a superb location.  I especially enjoy the outdoor classes – in all weathers!  The staff are encouraging, supportive, inspiring and kind.  Gokay has an excellent business!    Experience it for yourself - you won’t regret it!
    • We have used a number of tradespeople rennovating our flat over the last decade, and Matt Hanson and his team are by far the best we have come across. They have repaired and replaced a bathroom (after a long lasting leak was discovered), as well as a large scale redecoration. All was done with clear communication, great quality work (with an attention to detail we have not seen elsewhere) and reasonable prices. Highly recommend and we are already planning the next work we will do with them.
