Advance notice for the Oct 14th rides. We have a long and a short ride for Oct 14th.

Ride 1  Tour de Rotherhithe  < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/tour-de-rotherhithe-ride-tickets-732213729977

Rotherhithe has a remarkable history. This 2 hour ride takes you on a tour.  Due to of the excellent planning from the late 1980s there are lots of pedestrian/cycle paths and this ride is nearly completely off-road. A great ride for someone relatively new to cycling.  Start/finish point will be Deal Porter Square, opposite Canada Water Station, SE16 7AR. Start time 10am and finish 12 noon. Route is: Southwark Park, King Stairs Gardens, then Thames path all the way to Deptford Historic Riverside. Along this stretch will pass the departure point of the Mayflower, the first underwater tunnel anywhere (by Brunel) and the Surrey Docks Farm. From Deptford will head back via the Surrey Canal Linear Park to South Dock, Greenland Dock and Russia Woodland. Final stop at Stave Hill to admire the view then loop past Surrey Water and along the canal to Canada Water. All this in 10 miles and as a final bonus – this route is entirely without hills! No coffee break as this is a short ride, but time for a coffee at the end. Bruce leading.  Annotated route map at https://goo.gl/5pFd9b. GPX file attached.  Last ridden April 2022, report here

Ride 2. Dulwich to Frieze Outdoor Sculptures in Regents Park < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/ride-from-dulwich-to-frieze-sculptures-in-regents-park-tickets-732300118367 >.

Start at 10.00 from Dulwich Park Café (Dulwich Clock Café, middle of park). Ride via Herne Hill and Loughborough Junction to Kennington and Oval up to Vauxhall Bridge. Along the river to Westminster Bridge, then St James Park and on to Hyde Park.  From Hyde park we will make our way to Regents Park to the English Garden to see the Sculptures on show for Frieze 2023. This is a really fun outdoor display held every October. You will find an audio/video guide here. We'll allow a half hour to look around the 21 pieces and take a coffee break nearby. If you want longer looking at the sculptures - then bring your own drink/snack.

Returning across Hyde Park then Exhibition Road and South Kensington down to the river and across to Battersea from where we will ride through Clapham Common and Brockwell park back to Dulwich Park. The ride will be about 20 miles and allowing extra time for the exhibition, we will aim to be back in Dulwich by 2pm. Report of last year’s very popular Frieze ride here.

If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. How to cancel link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/help/en-gb/articles/575010/how-to-cancel-your-free-registration/

    • Hi SpringTime, I completely understand the concern for protecting birds, but using bells on cats is a bit more complicated. While they may reduce hunting success, they're not always effective & can cause stress for some cats, who are highly sensitive to sound. A better solution is to ensure cats are kept indoors during peak bird activity & providing plenty of enrichment at home to satisfy their hunting instincts. There's a terrible misconception that cats do not require as much mental & physical enrichment as dogs do. But they do, if not more so.
    • But we can train them to kill the foreign invaders, green sqwaky things, and the rats with feathers
    • Hi Nigello, Many spayed/neutered & microchipped cats actually don't wear collars, as they often go missing & can pose risks.  Microchipping is far more reliable for reuniting lost cats with their guardians. Some of our clients even keep sacks of collars on standby because their cats frequently return without them - a comical but telling example of how impractical collars can be. A major contributor to unspayed/unneutered cats & kittens is purchasing from breeders, where these measures are often overlooked. Adopting from shelters, on the other hand, ensures all precautionary steps - like spaying/neutering, microchipping, as well as vaccinations - are already in place.
    • Hi message me if you have any bits whatever they may be thanks
