Elmgrove- actually I think you'll find that these are the going rates now for walking, boarding and overnight stays. There are some dog walking companies locally that charge far more than this. Providing that the op provides a good service, these prices are very reasonable.

dogwalker, you need to state your experience - there are a lot of people out there who think dogwalker is a quick and easy way of making money but don't appreciate how difficult it is...it's also subject to local bye-laws as to the number of dogs you can walk at any one time (I say this in the hope that the 2/3 women who walk up to 10 dogs (mostly uncontrolled/uncontrollable) at my local park might just read this.

Have you worked with dogs for long? Are you aware of the different needs and temperaments of the different breeds? How many dogs have you cared for, or are currently caring for? Apart from walking, what other activities would you do with them? Are you able to manage different dietary requirements e.g. RMD/BARF diets?

I am asking because I am interested in such a service (though your walk only rate is almost double the usual. And which areas do you pick up and drop off from?

Although I agree that the OP needs to provide any references or qualifications that they may have, I still think that ?15 for a walk is a reasonable price providing the dog gets an hour (at least!), has its poo's picked up, isn't left in a dog stuffed van while a few other dogs get walked, and is actually walked by the person you believe to be walking your dog. There are many local dog walking services that can afford to be charging competitive rates of around ?8-?10 because the original dog walker employs other people to pick up and walk your dogs. This is okay, as long as you've been informed that someone else will be walking your dog, but in a lot of cases, this doesn't happen. There are a lot of dog walkers in the area that also violate certain rules put in place by local parks, such as ensuring that dog poo is picked up the lack of attention payed to picking up poo by the employees of such companies who are just trying to make a living, have no interest in dogs or any wualifications for that matter has resulted to the 4-dog maximum for dog walkers in many parks.

This new enforcement has left such companies (the larger ones who employ people to work for them) to bring all their dogs to the park, leaving them all in the van while they walk 4 at a time. This is bad enough, but in temperatures that we are beginning to experience, I think this is disgraceful. The truth is, with the cost of petrol, a dog walker being paid ?8 a walk can't afford to pick up and walk 4 dogs, ensuring that they are taken to different parks, and make a profit for their services.

For those of you that think that ?15 isn't reasonable for a dog walk, I would suggest looking into your own dogs walker, and the services they provide. I know that I would rather pay more for a better quality service.

    • Sorry to hear that. Someone stole mine once and used it to smash the windows a few doors along.  Lots of plant thefts reported over summer in the side streets near the station.  It will be Christmas wreaths next. I also stopped a woman in my front garden trying to make off with my garden table. Didn’t stop when I asked her what she was doing, clearly thought it was totally fine.  There are some very unpleasant people around.
    • If you can get russell then great. Fantastic roofer. Honest and a nice guy. Sadly though now unreliable. We booked him in months in advance and he then ghosted us having pushed back the start date 4 times. We now have a leaking roof for the winter and a young baby (which he knew was en route and why we were booking so far in advance) so not ideal. Glad he's still working as had assumed something bad might have happened to him as that behaviour was completely out of sorts. Had used him a number of times previously and now at the mercy of the biggest cowboy traders who are roofers in general.
    • Leon was brilliant! Fixed our issue promptly and is a lovely guy. Highly recommend.
    • Thanks so much for the offer, he's found something now
