Sue
Can you try starting in safe mode and then doing a system restore to a point before the Windows update causing the trouble? DulwichFox
Assuming you have System Restore Enabled. Else there will be no Restore Points to Rollback to.Instructions1 Turn on or restart your computer and press and hold "F8" while your computer is starting up to boot your computer into Safe Mode.amendment. repeatedly hit F8. do not Hold Down.2 Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to select "Safe Mode With a Command Prompt."3 Select the operating system that your computer is using if you're prompted to select an operating system.4 Log on to your computer with an administrator account or with an account that has administrator credentials.5 Type "%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe" into the command prompt and press the "Enter" key.6 Follow the onscreen instructions to restore your computer to a state when it was functioning properly.Read more: http://www.ehow.com/how_6765317_do-system-restore-safe-mode.html#ixzz2bTbidBw2 DulwichFox Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/35136-laptop-repair-needed/#findComment-668976 Share on other sites
DulwichFox
The Blue Screen Of Death.(BSOD) can be caused by Registry Errors. There may be conflicts with Drivers.. STOP Error 0x00000024: NTFS_FILE_SYSTEMSTOP error 0x24 means a problem occurred in ntfs.sys, the driver file that allows the system to read and write to NTFS drives. STOP code 0x00000024 may also display "NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM" on the same STOP message.A bit of research:-You may not be able to resolve this with a Rollback. (Restore Point)If you have a System Disc..You will need an XP Installation CD to try to fix this. If you do not have one, try to borrow one just to run this fix.Configure your PC to boot from CD if it isn't already set up that way. You may need to enter the BIOS to configure the PC to boot from the CD.Set the boot order to floppy (if present)CD/DVDROMHard diskSAVE and EXIT Start your PC with the XP Setup CD in the drive. When you see the "Press any key to boot from CD..." prompt, do so and let the CD-based boot process begin. When the Recovery Console option is offered (Press R to start the Recovery Console), do so. You may be asked which Windows installation to enter, in which case type the number of the Windows installation you wish to work on (usually 1). When prompted, enter the Administrator's password for that Windows installation. If you did not set a password just press ENTER At the command prompt, type chkdsk /r (there is a space before the /)EnterDulwichFox Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/35136-laptop-repair-needed/#findComment-669014 Share on other sites
