DiD
What's the best gym for women over 50 in ED? I really don't like the new leisure centre, there are almost no small weights, it's dark and unwelcoming. They have said they're increasing rates by 38%, too, though that remains lower than some. What are people's views and recommendations? 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/357993-best-gym-for-women-over-50/ Share on other sites

NewWave
@DiD yes I have same issue having been a member for 10 years the refurb ruined my enjoyment of the gym and felt much more geared towards a macho or more heavy lifting clientele. Also the large reduction in the number of Xtrainers and having to wait to get on a machine made me look into other options-the 38% rise is crazy-10% would be palatable but 38% for substandard quality machines and classes that are impossible to book is a joke. I'm 65 and I've opted for a Gym called Energie in Forest Hill near Sainsburys. What sold me was that it was inexpensive, clean, packed with decent equipment and the staff are really helpful and give a good induction and are on hand to help if help is needed. Its not luxury I dont like the grey interior but having tried it with a neighbour a couple of times decided to join. The clientele is very mixed and I've seen quite a few older women (older than me!) training there. I would'nt classify it as a 'gym suitable for older women' but its definately very inclusive and I got no hard sell from them which I felt I got in Fit for. 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/357993-best-gym-for-women-over-50/#findComment-1698314 Share on other sites

Nick Taylor
I also recommend Energie in Forest Hill. good value and a proper mix of ages and men and women. Pretty quiet after 10am as well. Its handy for 176 and 185 buses and if you have a car the car park behind Sainsbury's is free for two hours and free all day on Sunday. You'll need to have the PayByPhone app. 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/357993-best-gym-for-women-over-50/#findComment-1700279 Share on other sites
LondonFermentation
I'm at PureGym in Sydenham and it has a good mix of all ages - also quieter after 10am/11am. 176 and 197 bus stop right outside.
