Could anyone tell me if there is a war memorial as I'm trying to find out if one of my relatives is commemorated. He was Lance Corporal Alfred Duke and he was killed in action 13th April 1918. He received the Distinguished Conduct Medal for bravery and is commemorated on Pozieres Memorial, Somme but I was wondering if he was commemorated in East Dulwich as that is where he lived. Thanks.

You could try the cemetary on Forest Hill Road, turn right as soon as you enter and you will see the CWGC graves and a memorial wall. I believe the name may appear there, the name Duke rings a bell if memory serves me correctly he was a postman or worked for the Post Office. Regards Jason

    • Nope that is boring,  I want something creative.  Maybe turn them into Xmas cards.  I understand from those daytime television programmes that don't involve buying houses, DIY, antiques, bargain hunting and the second World War that this is called 'upcycling'. AI suggests: Upcycling old cheque books can involve repurposing the paper from old checks into creative items like notebooks, journals, art pieces, gift tags, bookmarks, decorative paper, or even small boxes, by cutting, decorating, and assembling the paper to create new functional or decorative objects, while ensuring any personal banking information is properly obscured or removed.
