Route to the M4...

...from East Dulwich. I normally go the obvious Vauxhall Bridge, along the river, Earl's Court and then meet the A4. But this is often very congested/slow and I suspect a better route might be possible crossing the river later. Anyone got a favourite route?

i tend to go clapham, battersea park the albert bridge then go staight over until cromwell road this misses out earls court which is always busy

That sounds good to me, although am I right in thinking that takes you through the congestion zone? Guess there isn't really an alternative to Earls Court without going through the zone.

You can go to Putney on South Circular and then over Putney Bridge and Fulham Palace road....but I'd stick to plan A if I were you

Avoid the south circular at all costs. I always go Vauxhall, Embankment, Earls Court.

Vauxhall Embankment Earls Court is without doubt the cheapest and fastest route, i've tried many times to figure out an alternative route and in all honesty it isnt any quicker and usually ends in congestion. My advice is take the obvious route and be a little savvy about the time of day you decide to drive and check travel info before doing so.

i agree - although i use queenstown road and chelsea bridge.....i think it is the quickest

I agree with TJS, always use Chelsea bridge, seems to be the quicker route.

I always go round the south circular, Clapham, over Battersea Bridge, and past Earls Court. I believe this misses the congestion charge zone. That said, I only ever drive that way at 6am ish, so probably miss all the traffic.

I do this route all the time and it's my preferred route. I've tried all the others and this is definitely the quickest route. It tends to miss most of the heavy traffic in the Chelsea area although Hammersmith can be a nightmare.

Personaly, if I need to get to the M4 in the morning I leave ED at about 6:40am, which allows me time to get to the embankment before the bus lanes open up. From there you're against the flow, and there's no further bus lanes to slow you down.

True true! I got to High Wycombe in an hour this morning going the route mentioned earlier. I did leave at 6 am though....
