My eldest son qualified as a pool lifeguard as was able to earn ?7.50/hour working for Fusion as a summer job / part timer after school.

The Royal Life Saving Society 5 day qualifying course cost ?170.00 and is run by various leisure centres - including JAGS locally. A google search will locate where and when next courses are held.

He has also qualified as a Beach LIfeguard (different 5 day course - run by Royal National Lifeboat Institution for about ?200) and hopes to earn ?8.00 / hour for 48 hour week on Cornish beach this summer. As a student and effectively a non tax payer it's pretty good money at ~ ?400 a week.

Love to but financially I have that sinking feeling that it isn't going to work out, though, if me and my mates pool our resources then I might just go with the flow.

Life's A Beach, sometimes...B)

Aah - San Diego. Wind surfing off the beach, skiing in the mountains. The perfect climate ~ 75F all year round. I remember it well, particularly beach parties on Coronado Island and drinking Dry Martini's watching the sun set over the Pacific from the terrace of the Coronado Hotel (was that it's name? - the one that featured in the Marilyn Monroe / Jack lemon film "Some LIke it Hot"))

    • If it doesn't taste good, don't put it on the menu
    • We tried both vegan and then the usual.. neither was nice. I've had nice soups here before so will just stick to that. Probably just a bad choice on the day... As I said the waiting staff are always lovely.
    • Hi everyone who has subscribed to Eats Dulwich. The response has been overwhelming. However, I've realised I made a rookie error when I set up the new page. I didn't have the paid subscriber button turned on! While the reviews are free to read, a few paid subscribers will help me to make the page better - write more, travel a bit beyond SE22 and also set up exclusive offers and meal deals. Subscriptions start at only £5 a month and you can cancel at any time. If you can upgrade to paid that would be great. But no obligation of course. Any support is really appreciated.
    • I would happily take the task on but sadly the council will keep the responsibility, which I'm fairly sure means within months of them actually putting any useful information up on the boards it will not be kept up to date and will eventually get vandalised and fall out of use. Wonder when it will actually have anything at all posted as it was mended last year after around 2 years of me (and James Barber supporting) to ask Charlie Smith and other councillors to have it repaired. I'm not disputing that BUT this would also be a very useful place for small businesses to advertise and the last time it was actually in use it had a mix of councillors' contact details (I'm guessing would be in line with you supporting community info being posted there) but also info about give and take sales and also a few small business ads, a whole range really... and now I believe the plan is only to have community group and not for profit group info. That's my argument really, that we are a mixed area and anything we can do to support local small businesses would also be a good idea. Anyway I sadly don't have high hopes for this (Northcross Rd) board to be maintained properly or regularly by the local councillors - Monica at Health Matters did her best when it was last in use but even then it had very old info on it aside from local councillors details. Hope I'm proven wrong.
