Rag recycling in East Dulwich

I'm sure there was a previous thread on this but I can't find it.

Can anybody tell me where there is a (preferably charity) receptacle locally for old clothes and other fabrics not good enough for the charity shop? Or a charity shop which will take rags?

I'm decluttering and I don't want to just send things to landfill which could be recycled in some way.

Hi Sue..

Yes I have the same problem...

As I understand it, if you bag it up and put it in the bins like the ones at the supermarket

they will get sorted and the good stuff sent for reuse and the rest for rags.

I've take stuff to the Mind Shop at the start of Grove Vale and they've taken it. I think they get something like ?50 a tonne for it.

I think it's nice to warn them what it is though, especially if a bag contains items that might frighten the horses.

There is a bin outside the Mind Shop for old textiles and shoes.

That list covers most, but the one in Morrison's has disappeared. There's one in the reception at Pecan- opposite the entrance from Morrison's to the high street.

There's also one in the carpark opposite West Dulwich station.

Thanks, it seems like for SE22 it's the Mind Shop or Sainsbury's DKH, since the Grove/Harvester is now closed.

I've already sorted stuff into saleable and not, but of course my criteria might be different from somebody else's :)

At the large St. Christopher's in Lordship Lane we can get money for rags, just war us when donating and we won't go through the bags, just directly 'rag' them. Thanks

All charity shops have a rag merchant which they sell their rag bags to.

In SE London it is Chris Carey's recycling that collects them.

Isn't the rag bank in Peckham Rye Park for recycling? I put all our unresellable items there, and the ok stuff goes directly to charity shops.

Carey's doesn't collect ours!

I'm now vaguely considering attempting to make a rag rug, if it doesn't work I'll take the lot to the Hospice shop :)
