Siduhe
Is the Chener Books sponsored link supposed to be a clever bit of reverse marketing? ("Chener Books - probably the worst bookshop in East Dulwich").If so, I don't quite get it...any ideas? Peckhamgatecrasher
I think it's good - makes me chuckle everytime I see it. Since it is the only bookshop in ED, I guess it is the worst and best! SeanMacGabhann
Have you clicked through on the link? I like that too Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7995-chener-books-reverse-marketing/#findComment-248034 Share on other sites
Siduhe
I suppose if it gets the click it does the job, and I assume it's only=best/worst too, but a bit odd not to explain it anywhere. Thanks both. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7995-chener-books-reverse-marketing/#findComment-248044 Share on other sites
RosieH
I love it, I think it's very funny. And people have ranted on here rather about its dilapidated appearance and occasional grumpy staff. Thanks both.I like the fact that it's not explained, far too much explaining of gags and pith going on in the world for my liking, it is what it is. Chener is an utter joy to have around and John is thouroughgoing good egg in my estimation. If he has a fault, it's that he's a Seinfeldian 'low talker'.Either that or I'm getting deaf. Now I think about it people are starting to complain at the volume I keep the telly at.So, could go either way. wee quinnie
Loving the ad - it fits with the whole Chener ethos. It is the antithesis of the Village bookshop - which I find unbearably cramped and clautrophobic. Also, love love love the book table.Yeh! Brendan
If Chener repaint their sign I?ll pay some of the local yoof to vandalise it back into its original condition. Brendan
Bummer, I really like the scruffy old sign. I just hope they don?t replace it with one of those big plastic lettering jobs. SimonM
I was at Chener's yesterday and John Kennedy confirms that the whole shop front is being refurbished, probably by January. It will also be buggy/wheelchair accessible. Moos
That's really good news. It's all very well for regulars to be fond of Chener and its scruffy old sign, but at the moment it doesn't look like what it is, which is a mainstream local bookshop. If a smart new sign and a better window display makes people go in there and buy books whom otherwise might have passed by, then all the better for the business. woofmarkthedog
I hope they go for a "Crafted decayed look" out front with one of the sign letters hanging down out of sync with the rest, maybe even remove & alter one each seasonA kind of bonkers Cherner living instalation Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7995-chener-books-reverse-marketing/#findComment-262081 Share on other sites
