A few months ago, a friend of mine living in Dawsons Heights requested the following work :-

"I wonder if any of the councillors for College Ward can help regarding Melford Passage (a footpath connecting the top of Belvoir Road with Melford Road).

This footpath was paved over a few years ago which was a great improvement.

There are steep steps at the Belvoir Road end and, in wet or icy conditions, these steps can be dangerous and there really should be a handrail on these steps to make them more manageable. I doubt that this would cost much money and it would greatly improve Melford Passage."

I am pleased to report that this work is now complete with handrails on both sides of the steps. Many thanks to Andy Simmons and his councillor colleagues in College Ward for pushing this work through and making the steps much safer.

    • You have all the information you need to appeal, I expect you have a receipt for the items and can demonstrate that they were heavy.
    • My partner parked in a loading bay in Orpheus Street SE5 to get some heavy items from Cowling & Wilcox Art Supplies for his business. The whole transaction took less than 5 minutes. He came back, loaded and left - with a fine for parking in a loading bay “without loading within 2 minutes”!!  He made an online appeal but it was turned down- letter attached.   I think the main points he contested are;   You can’t walk to C&W, pick up a box and walk back in 2 minutes, so how can ‘evidence of loading be seen’ in that time? They were not ‘general domestic shopping.’ They were bulky and heavy. The vehicle was moved immediately on returning to it with the goods. So, he met ALL the criteria they have stipulated as reasons for issuing the PCN. If anyone has successfully or unsuccessfully  appealed against a similar loading bay fine do let me know, thanks!
