Our local Police station Peckham is to close along with catford and many more this will leave one Police Station per Borough the one for Southwark is the small one at Carter st so even less chance of seeing a copper.

I believe the plan is only to close the front counter service, which was only dealing with, on average, 2.1 crime reports per day; the plan being to free up counter staff for more on-street duties, so possibly more chance of seeing a copper rather than less. Not entirely desirable, but not quite a closure of the entire station.

If stations are to be "closed" where will fast response officers be based? Will they all be mobile in cars and vans or parked up in places waiting to respond to incidents taking place.


IMO another short sighted idea of this new policing method.

Carter Street station has been closed for years / Flats now there. Regards.

As above, it's only the front desk that's closing, the stations (except Camberwell) will still have the same roster of officers. Obviously ideally government cuts wouldn't have made this necessary, but given a choice between an underused counter service and 170 extra constables it's a no-brainer.

I would suggest we ALL be proactive, look on the Southwark website for the phone number of our local Safer Neighbourhood Teams and put that number in our phones. In my experience the SNTs are very active and aware of what is going on. On occasions I have had to call they do turn up. Not always immediately but then they're not 999! The SNT reads EDF and they also host meetings every two months. Ours in Nunhead and Peckham Rye is at the Waverly pub. I think if there is nothing we can do about the cuts and changes, then we can at least be proactive to learn how we CAN contact them when we need.

Apologies Peckham Rose. It's a bit of a throwback to when I was last working. 2008.

It was a bit of a BUZZ word and all our managers were telling us to get 'Proactive'

The Blair Government were spouting it out at the time, and we all know what happened

when Gordon Brown got Proactive back in 2008.

      Cyclists certainly do have a bit of a perception problem at the moment and when I cycle I see a lot of examples of arrogance and ignorance that gives all cyclists a bad name - it does seem that many cyclists have caught the entitlement bug many drivers seem to have.

      But Spartacus didn't mention the significant amounts of land being used for car storage - that was most definitely you.   And I am afraid when you apply your same measure to other transport uses (like cycleways and cycle lanes - Malumbu is your stat on the 360 kms of cycle network cycleways or cycle lanes?) then it most definitely is relevant for the debate.   Should we assume then that if all this ULEZ money and government bailout money is being poured into TFL then the system is, financially at least, broken or is it a case that the money is being mis-spent (like the DV junction project)?

      Contact your SNT (police). An old friend of mine (now deceased) was a 'victim' of a door to door scam some years ago. He mentioned it to our local SNT police officers who found that several ED residents had been visited by these ;salespeople. It was arranged that my friend asked the scammers to return on a certain day and time when he had some money to purchase their goods. Police in plain clothes outside in street watching. with a uniformed officer in the house - scammers returned and were arrested.
