Mugged at knifepoint near Greendale (Aug 2nd 2017)

Recommended Posts

RP Child - Southwark is hit and miss on this. Some roads - Barry, for example - have the big trees cut right back, even at the base where the new twigs sprout, but other places are left to grow like topsy. Ring the enviro line - 020 7525 2000 - and ask them to keep it in check, if it is indeed Southwark's responsibility.

Sorry to hear this and glad you were not seriously harmed.

Worrying to hear as I'll be using that regularly soon on school drop offs, not something you want to hear about and 6pm is not late or dark either. It's really a prime spot if you think about it as it's like a dead end then an overgrown pathway. I have messaged James Barber in case anything can be done re CCTV or something to improve security.

All descriptions of perpetrators should include passport no. and DNA profile.

Anything else, ie. not specifying name, exact height, brand and colour of clothing, shoe size, and inside leg measurement is simply generalising.

Imagine warning people about a mugger and only providing the details you managed to observe during the attack, perish the thought of such an ill-informed and badly thought out approach to raising awareness.

If the only detail you could pick out during the mugging was the fact that it was a black man then that's not very helpful. Try going to the police and say you got mugged. The police will most likely ask for a description and you'll be like 'well he was black and a man'. Cheers buddy, that really narrows it down.

What's the point in even saying it was a black man when that literally doesn't help at all. Would you have said it was a white guy if it was a white guy who took your phone? Of course you would. I'm very sympathetic towards the victim. But find it very odd the way that was worded and slipped in st the end of the post.

Kidkruger, I see what you tried there but it wasn't funny. Good effort though.

stantonb, yes it was a slightly undesirable turn of phrase, but the OP had been mugged a short while before at knifepoint - I'm sure anyone who's been bored with my posts on here can tell you I'm tiresomely politically correct but in this instance maybe cut him/her a little slack, under the circumstances?

Not sure the OP was offering that as a complete description, but in any case when you're the victim of a crime, particularly a violent one, it can be surprisingly hard to remember anything but the most obvious things about the aggressor. I believe the OP is also not a native English speaker so in what must have been a very stressful situation they might not be able to think of another way to say what they wanted to. Please don't turn the perpetrator into the victim here.

Yes, and people on here have done in similar circumstances.

ETA: And I am unclear why you have called me Susan above.

it would seem that this alley has insufficient lighting and in the winter months is rather dark has anybody contacted the council or contacted the police in reference to this as this is a on going problem for as long as i have lived in the area surely some responsibility is with the council we all pay our council taxes and have rights

maybe its about time a petition was started about getting some CCTV along there maybe a long shot but nothing tried nothing gained

i know it is a good Short cut but maybe this alley is best avoided in the dark evenings

    • Hello, I'm looking for an entertainer for my 9 year old son's birthday party. Looking for someone who can organise some games for the kids as my son and his friends are quite active. Regards, Sue
    • My son’s primary school hatched duck eggs, probably under this scheme around 12 years ago.  We were all very upset to hear that 2 of the (5 year old) boys had knocked the incubator over & all eggs smashed.   feeling a lot less sad about that now!
    • What would I do about cyclists?  The failed Tory manfesto commitment to train all kids was an excellent proposal.  Public information campaigns aimed at all road users, rather than singling some out, to more considerately share the road, as TfL have done, is welcome too. As for crunching vehicles.  I'd extend this to illegal ebikes, illegal e-scoooters (I think some local authorities have done this with the latter) but before that I would (a) legislate that the delivery companies move away from zero hours contracts to permanent employees and take responsibility for their training, vehicles and behaviour on the road.   More expensive takeaways are a price worth paying for safer roads and proper terms and conditions (b) legislate to register all illegal e-bikes and scooters so that when they are found on the road the retailer takes a hit, and clamp down on any grey markets.  If you buy an e scooter say from Halfords this comes with a disclaimer that it can only be used on private land with the owner's permission.
    • I know a lot of experts in the field and getting a franchise was a license to print money, that is why Virgin were so happy to spend lots of dosh challenging government ten years ago when they lost the West Coast franchise.  This will not be overnight, rather than when the franchise has come to the end. Government had previously taking over the operator of last resort when some TOCs screwed up. Good, at last some clear blue water between the parties.  Tories said they were going to do a halfway house, but I've not noticed.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_British_Railways   : "On 19 October 2022, Transport Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan announced that the Transport Bill which would have set up GBR would not go ahead in the current parliamentary session.[15] In February 2023, Transport Secretary Mark Harper re-affirmed the government's commitment to GBR and rail reform.[16] The 2023 King's speech announced the progression of a draft Rail Reform Bill which would enable the establishment of GBR, although it has not been timetabled in the Parliamentary programme.[5] The Transport Secretary Mark Harper later told the Transport Select Committee that the legislation was unlikely to reach Royal Assent within the 2023-2024 parliamentary session.[17]"
