Recommended Posts

NOTE. You must register on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers, links below.

For 16 July we have two Southwark Healthy Rides, one short and one longer, with registration on Eventbrite. If you cannot make it, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. Even at the last minute it is worth cancelling (How to cancel). Note the weather forecast for Saturday promises 30 degree plus temperatures. Please dress appropriately, lather on the sun cream and bring plenty drink. By following this advice can have an enjoyable ride despite any high temperatures.

Reminder that we often have photos and short reports on the Facebook site (https://www.facebook.com/groups/553896211918871) and longer reports and route info on the Southwark Cyclists web site (https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/healthy-ride-reports-2022/)

Rides for July 16th

Some Theatres in Southwark & Lambeth < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/some-theatres-in-southwark-lambeth-cycle-ride-tickets-383036752237 >

Jane is leading a ride we did once before, on 29th March 2019 (see report at http://healthyrider.weebly.com/healthy-ride-reports-jan-march2019.html) This is a gentle approx. 12 mile ride with lots of stops, so should suit the very warm forecast. Start/finish at the Fuorvito Café, Burgess Park (Chumleigh St). 10 am start, approx. 12 noon finish. Mostly on quiet streets with some stretches of busier road. Will try to post an updated list of theatres and an indication of the likely route later in the week. It will not be massively different from last time, so you can get a good idea from the ride report from 2019 mentioned above. No coffee stop during the ride, but of course can have one at the finish in the park café.

Greenwich to Woolwich via Trinity Buoy Wharf < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/greenwich-to-woolwich-via-trinity-buoy-wharf-cycle-ride-tickets-383071084927 >

Start/finish Cutty Sark, 9.30am. NOTE EARLY START. Amanda leading and aiming to finish around 1pm. We subtitled this ride the last time we did it in 2018 “The New, The Old and The Derelict”. There is now less of the derelict and more of the new and the route has to change to reflect this.. This week the tunnel lifts are all working, but if we have problems can divert to the DLR (so bring travel cards or whatever just in case). There is so much of interest in the East London Docklands. Route will be Greenwich Tunnel, Canary Wharf, Trinity Buoy Wharf, Thames Barrier Park, Connaught Bridge, City Airport, Woolwich Ferry (if running) and south side Thames Path return. About 15 miles. For those of you who have not visited Trinity Buoy Wharf, try to get on this ride. May be hard as those who have been there will want to return! Completely unique site with 2 decent cafes and some interesting art. Plus the history related to Trinity House and Michael Faraday.

Have checked the route and updated the theatres. See attached. Note that it is likely that this ride will take 2½ hours and finish at 12.30 rather than 12 noon as previously stated. Finish will be at Mountview Academy, Peckham Square. We will lead a group back to the start location in Burgess Park for anyone going that way.

    • Another recommendation for Jason Arnold. He took great care and did an excellent job repairing a kitchen wall and plastering. Very personable and friendly and left the place clean and tidy. Communication with him was speedy and straightforward. Highly recommend.
    • If memory serves, there was rather more to things than that. Young people were being coerced in some way to sell these things by the people running the scam. I am guessing the relevant forum threads no longer exist, as this has been going on for decades round here, and I imagine in other places as well.
    • I wanted to provide a strong recommendation for Nick Minnes and his team. I came across Nick when someone on our street was moving out shortly after we moved in and posted on our street whatsapp group with their top ten best trades people in which Nick was listed as a handyman+. We had just moved into a house that had been lived in for 40 years by a couple in their late 80s so there was a lot of work to do! Over the last 5 years, we have used Nick on multiple occasions. The definition of handymen+ does not do Nick and his team justice as they do so much more than this. The work they have done includes: A complete new bathroom refurbishment (including re-building a new wall) Completely refurbishing a sitting room (including inserting sound insultation and bespoke cabinetary) Bespoke under stairs storage (after a number of other trades people said it was too difficult) Preparing the house for plastering (removing old wallpaper, filling in cracks) Outside restoration of bricks and cornice Fixing floorboards down Nick is not your normal handymen. He is extremely creative and also great with thinking through colour schemes. I wouldn't hesitate to use Nick and his team again. Everything that they have done for me has been of the highest quality. They are trustworthy, tidy, reliable and honest. I already have a list of other jobs to get them back in for. I would very happily provide a reference for Nick - just like the people did who were leaving our road.  Nick can be contacted on: 07866 267 581. Thanks, Andy
    • Would be very interested to buy a 10-12’ trampoline with net in case anyone is having a pre-summer clear out.    Dan
