OK here's the running order for the music:

12pm DJ/Open Mic (see below)

1pm The Relatives (offshoot of the Dulwich Ukulele Club, R.I.P.)

2pm Ben Holland

3pm The Bara Bara Band

4pm John McClean and The Clan

Each band's set will be 45 minutes.

The open mic is first come first served and is open to anybody who would like to come and give us all a song or tune - anything you want (as long as it's suitable for a street party where there will be children and other sensitive souls :) ).

There will be a whiteboard by the music gazebo, and singers will be in order of writing their names on the board.

One song each to start with.

The booked bands will start at 1pm so if you want to do an open mic spot please make sure you get there in time to put your name down early.

The music gazebo will be in the section of Crystal Palace Road between The Actress and The Great Exhibition, and will be towards The Actress end this year.

Please do come, all are welcome - and please bring food and drink to share!

Fingers crossed for good weather!!

Thanks to everyone who came along - a great afternoon was had by all. And thanks to The Goose Is Out for (once again) organising the music, to the musicians (The Relatives, Ben Holland, The Bara Bara Band and, rocking the end of the party, John McClean and The Clan) who gave their time in return only for liquid refreshment, to the DJs, to the organisers and helpers, face-painters, balloon-doggers, bunting-makers and gazebo-erecters. And thanks to everyone who brought some food and drink to share with their neighbours and friends - that is the point of the Big Lunch, after all.

* edited to give names of musicians performing at the 2015 joint Crystal Palace Road / Ulverscroft Road Big Lunch street party.

** And I forgot to thank all the residents who kindly moved their vehicles from the street on the day of the party - it made a big difference so thank you too.

Thanks are also due to Enzo (hope I've spelled your name right, Enzo) who supplied the electricity for the bands!

Several of the original organisers of the Crystal Palace Road/Ulverscroft Road (as the roads are so close to each other, we have been alternating the party location each year) street party have moved or are moving out of the area.

The core group is becoming more and more depleted, with consequently the pre-party preparation (it starts months before) falling on just a few shoulders this year, all already busy people.

If you live on Crystal Palace Road or Ulverscroft Road (or adjoining roads) and you'd like to see this annual event continue and blossom, please consider volunteering to help - the more volunteers there are, the less for each one to do!

    • Please understand that I am not doubting the word of anyone who has posted here with problems with bought-in prepared meat, but (I am old) uncooked meat (perfectly 'good' meat) does smell often, we are too used to shrink wrapped and chilled supermarket meat which can be almost scent free - so we are surprised when 'butcher's' meat does smell (and often, if it is uncooked, quite strongly). Indeed game which is high can smell quite strongly, and not in a good way to our 21st C sensibilities, without being off - as in food poisoning off. Certainly prepared meat, when cooked, should smell enticing, and not at all bad - so the experiences quoted above are certainly very worrying - but younger people reading this should not be concerned, particularly, if fresh (raw) meat they have bought from e.g. a proper butchers has a smell to it. Which is not to say that something which smells rank shouldn't be a point of complaint. Even the smell of high-ish game, if left unwrapped, should dissipate once unwrapped. If it increases however it may be  cause for concern. But raw beef or lamb in the joint can often smell of something which isn't necessarily particularly nice, without it being worrying. It will tend to cook with more flavour.
