Another Way Of Seeing - Zen Wisdom explored through images.

Hi everyone 🙂

Im Daniel and I live in East Dulwich. I’m running a workshop on Saturday 17th January, exploring the wisdom of Zen Buddhism through images and guided meditations. It’s a beautiful way to begin the new year, and it would make an excellent Christmas present—for yourself or someone you love. Come and experience Another Way of Seeing.

It cost £85 per person for the full day - message me to book a place (hello@anotherwayofseeing,co.uk).

Hello, I'm Daniel Thomas Smith.

I first trained as a scientist and now work as a photographer, so a lot of my life has been spent looking and examining. I’ve been meditating for about 15 years and studying Zen Buddhism for the last 5 with Zen master Julian Daizan Skinner Roshi.

When people asked about the Zen perspective, I often gave long, rambling answers. To make things clearer—for myself and others—I created this workshop: Another Way of Seeing.

It’s a one-day, image-led exploration of Zen wisdom: a chance to look at the causes of stress and dissatisfaction, and how we can find a clearer, calmer way of being. Through simple visual guides and thought experiments, we explore new ways of seeing ourselves, the world, and our place within it as part of a group of up to 10 people.

How it works

The day is divided into themed sections. Each starts with images that introduce an idea, followed by a short exercise—writing, a body scan, or a puzzle—and a brief reflection. We finish each section with a guided thought-experiment meditation to turn the ideas into direct experience.

What you’ll get from it

You’ll gain a fresh perspective on yourself and the world—seeing through separation, feeling more connected, and settling into presence and calm. It’s a peaceful, reflective space that can spark deeper exploration or simply offer a unique, restorative day.

Who it’s for

Open to everyone—beginners and experienced practitioners alike. No beliefs required; just curiosity about your mind and how you experience the world.

What makes it unique

The workshop uses around 100 visual guides—photos, drawings, A. I. images, and physical objects—designed to make subtle ideas clear and accessible. It’s a distinctive, image-driven way to explore universal truths.

Topics covered

  • How we currently see the world
  • The causes of dissatisfaction
  • Another way of seeing objects
  • Another way of seeing separation
  • Another way of seeing ourselves
  • Another way of seeing thinking
  • Another way of seeing space
  • Life without the need for more
  • Life through a new lens

Location

I live in Easy Duwlich but hire a room at Jamyang Buddhist Centre, a peaceful and welcoming space in South East London. Housed in a former Victorian courthouse, with a beautiful garden and outdoor spaces, providing quiet corners to pause and take in the day. The centre is easily accessible by public transport and perfectly suited to the spirit of the workshop.
